Re: EA Play subscription via Steam doesn't work on the new EA Desktop App

Hello @AEIDOLONE,

when you have the EA Play subscription through Steam, it only works for Steam and not the EA app as it is tied to the platform. You can read up on it a bit more here:

"Is EA Play available on other platforms?

Yes! EA Play is available for PC via Steam or Origin as well as on Xbox One and PlayStation®4. Please note: while EA Play is available on multiple platforms your membership is tied to the platform you joined on. If you joined on Steam, your Play List, member discount, and all other benefits will only be available here."

  • @EA_Pythia I think you didn't understand or I explained it poorly.

Before I was forced to install EA App I used Origin and Steam. Got BF2042 via Steam AND the EA Play subscriiption via Steam. But I had to have Origin open in the background to play BF2042 on Steam.

I got the EA Play benefits. I could play EA games VIA STEAM with the EA Play subscription and all benefits (store discounts, in-game items) delivered without issues. All worked fine.

UNTIL after I installed EA App the benefits don't apply anymore. I don't get the EA Play sub anymore. No monthly rewards, no in-game store 10% discount. EA Play doesn't work with BF2042. I haven't tested this with other games, but it might be BF2042 specific.

@AEIDOLONE To confirm, do you still have an active subscription to EA Play via Steam? If so, do you typically launch from the Steam client or the new EA App client?
  • @EA_IlliumI still have an active subscription via Steam. I do typically launch the game via Steam, but I also tried to launch it via the new EA App. I also tried to re-subscribe EA Play on Steam (cancelling than subbing again). Nothing changed. The sub basically doesn't apply for this game, and I don't know why. But I am 100% positive it's the EA App, because it worked just fine with Origin. The moment I (forcingly) installed EA App I lost the subscription in this game.

Yeah, it's aggravating. Up until the forced switch to the EA App, I had the EA Play discount listed in game for Battlefield coin purchases and I received my EA Play rewards without problem.

Ever since then, while the discount does get applied when I buy coins, the markdown is not displayed in game and since December I have had to contact CS every month in order to be rewarded the EA Play rewards for that month and it usually takes me several attempts each month to get it credited to me and it feels like most of the time I'm either being forced to run in circles by CS or outright lied to.

I never got last months rewards nor have I received March 2023s reward.

    HI @AEIDOLONE @Zaydin

For missing rewards, we can try reaching out to our support with assistance getting those on the account:

You can select the options: Battlefield 2042  | Steam-PC  | Manage my account  | Manage memberships

For the missing 10% discount, do you see that apply in steam if you attempt to purchase a DLC from the games store or if you try to check out currency from in-game?

  • @EA_IlliumIt indeed applied the 10% off in the Steam overlay. So this might be a visual bug only. Why didn't I receive last month's rewards tou, hmm...

My next billing date for the sub is March 20th. I'll wait to see if I get this months reward. When do these rewards get rewarded anyway? Could never figure out. Is it the first day of the month or the billing date (sub date) which in my case is the 20th? If I don't get it this time again I'll make sure to reach out to Live Support.

    Thanks!

I still get the 10% discount on Battlefield Coins purchases through Steam, yes. The discount just does not appear in the in-game store.

As for the EA Play rewards, to say Customer Support is unhelpful is an understatement. I constantly get the run around about how they can't help or somehow they can't credit me what I am supposed to get for reasons ranging from 'not having it' to 'Oh it's not out yet' even though it is.

    @EA_Illium @EA_Pythia

    Hello again!

So, just like I wrote in my previous post I waited for the 20th March when my next billing for EA Play was to see if it has something to do with this that I didn't receive this months reward - "Hand Cannon" weapon charm.

I still did not receive it.

So it turns out that the missing 10% discount in the in-game Store for Battle Coins is just a visual bug and when I actually click on Buy they appear discounted on the Steam overlay buy screen, but this does not apply the same for the EA Play monthly rewards. I thought it will be a similar bug, but it isn't. 21 days into the month and I didn't receive it.

I will procced to contact Customer Support and hope they will deliver the reward for me but that still will not fix the issue. I will have to contact Support every month then. It's the "new" EA App and the game! As I said it worked just fine with Origin. The second I have been forced to install EA Play the rewards did not work anymore!

@EA_Illium Well I never got rewarded with what I was owed for February, March or April so this was a waste of time.

    Did u contact Customer Support?

I did, just like @EA_Illium suggested. I had 8, yes EIGHT live chat interactions, every time with a different person, telling me different stories, and I never got actually proper help about this. Most of them stated how I cannot receive those rewards if I subbed via Steam, which is totally wrong, other said I should just wait, it will come... They were so incompetent to the point I thought they were doing this deliberately just so I cancel my Steam EA Play sub and sub on the EA App.

Other thing that they were telling me was how I did not attach proper images of proofs of my receipts even I extremely precise followed the process from their official link how to do it. After few attempts, the last guy just told me that he CAN NOT PROPERLY SEE the image, whatever that means. When I asked to elaborate precisely what he means by that, he said just again, that there is no image attached.

After eight attempts and losing my temper I noticed I don't anymore have the option to Live Chat with Customer Support. I gave up and never got help.

I saved all conversations and names.

The experience was extremely dissatisfying and straight up bad.

@AEIDOLONE Customer Support is not very helpful in my experience. I've had to open numerous tickets with them to get anything done.
  • @ZaydinIf you pay EA Play via Steam I think they deliberately don't want to help so you sub to EA Play via their launcher, so they don't lose the 30% cut or how much ever it is that Steams takes from it.

There is no way they could not help me get a simple monthly reward charm after eight attempts.

Either it's this or all eight od them are extremely incompetent.
