In the Game/Bin folder that's in the Electronic Arts folder, all I have are two icons. The one for playing the game and the one for uninstalling it. But they're only the icons; there are no exe's.
In the Game/Bin folder in the Origin Games/The Sims 3 folder, I ahve an exe called TSLHelper which does nothing. In the main Origin Games/The Sims 3 Folder, I have two exe's. IsSetupHelper, which does nothing, and Sims3Setup, which I used to install the game. - crinrict13 years agoHero+
Then I would say it did not install correctly.
When you say reinstall, did you clean your registry before doing that or is it the first time installation on that computer ?
What happens if you try to install again ?
- Anonymous13 years ago
I've uninstalled and reinstalled the game several times. I've even tried manually uninstalling it. I've tried deleting my data, re-downloading the data and installing again. Each time, I get the same results.
(At the risk of sounding like a moron, what do you mean by "clean my registry"?)
EDIT: Googled it, tried it, still no luck. T__T

I really don't know what could be wrong.
Do you have a file ts3w.ex_ in the installation directory ? If so, you can try renaming that to ts3w.exe and then manually move. Don't know if that will work though (do accordingly for the other files you're missing)

I had Sims3Launcher.ex_ which I changed to Sims3Launcher.exe and it appears to be working.
I don't know what wizardry this is, but I will not question it for now. Thank you, Crinrict. <3 - Anonymous13 years ago
Okay, so it's not quite fixed yet. Well, it is for the Sims 3. I keep getting a "There was an error during Startup. Please see the Log for more details" error. That's cool, I simply bypass the Launcher. But it's not recognizing that I've installed Pets and Ambitions. Trying to launch the files TS3EP05 and TS3EP02 give me "Unable to start game Service initialization failed (0x0175dcbb)" And now I've found that I can only uninstall and reinstall a game so many times before Origin won't let me do it anymore. So I need to be certain that uninstalling and reinstalling will work before I try it.

Probably has to do with the registry keys not properly registrated (that's what I feared).
It seems that the installation simply did not work correctly.
Did you uninstall everything before trying to install again or only the base game ?
- Anonymous13 years ago
I didn't even install the expansions until after I thought the base game was working. Since then, I've uninstalled and re-installed Ambitions twice and haven't touched the base game or Pets. No improvement. I can try uninstalling everything, but I'm running out of uninstall/reinstall tries on Ambitions.
The things they do to stop piracy actually may make me have to resort to piracy. - crinrict13 years agoHero+
I think you can deactivate a copy so you can reinstall but don't know how that works. Maybe you need to contact CS to reset your copies.
ATM only suggestion I have would be uninstalling everything, all EPs, cleaning all Sims 3 registry keys so that nothing is left on your computer. Then start from scratch.

I tried Customer Service. They're only interested in giving me the same cut-and-paste responses and when one of the dolts finally offered to transfer my case to Level 2, as it were, I gave a literal sigh of relief. He said I'd get an e-mail within 72 hours. 72 hours came and went. If there were some way of making sure the money I used to purchase this game went only to the developers and programmers and such (and perhaps to fine, upstanding citizens like you, Crinrict) and not to CS, I'd do it. XD
I'll try doing what you say tomorrow night. Wish me luck. <3
