I have the same issue, all other games DL no problem.
I have been playing on Steam for years now... never once have I had an issue with getting a game on there. I decide I want to take a crack at Mass Effect, the first game I have played in years from EA and I can't download it. It tracks though..
Still can't download it...

@falmark There have been some intermittent server issues happening with multiple titles and the EA App that started way later in the evening yesterday night. Things have slowly come back up.
If you can, please use the app recovery and run the app as Amin to see if that helps.
EA App's Cache (Top Left Menu > Help > App Recovery) - @falmark this is the exact situation I have: same problem, same error message, same everything. Every other game in my EA App library downloads normally, only Mass Effect 1 has this problem, and nothing that's been suggested in the other thread(s) on this topic has changed anything about that.
Hopefully your luck will be better, but if not, maybe this will nudge the needle just a tiny bit closer to someone at EA actually looking into this problem. - falmark2 years agoRising Novice
@EA_ShepardRun as admin and app recovery did not work. This was not a problem on Origin.
Its clear that there is an compatibility issue between ME1 and EA app.
Since Origin is no longer around the issue is something that nees to fixed from EA`s side of things. - Fred_vdp2 years agoHero+
I tested it myself, and I got the exact same error. Mass Effect can't be installed. The suggested workarounds (delete cache, run as admin) unfortunately didn't help.

Hey Everyone,
I tested this myself, and I was able to get it downloaded. I have two internal drives. One SSD and one HDD (for games) As that error is a pretty generic error, I wanted to make sure everyone has gone through the following steps. @Fred_vdp I appreciate you testing this out as well. 👍
Nvidia
- Try the NVIDIA PhysX Legacy System
- Restart the PC.
- Test.
Delete Windows Temp Files
- Press the Windows key + R, go into the file explorer
- Type in %temp%, and hit Enter
- Delete everything it allows you to delete
- Reboot the PC
Windows Steps
-
If you have two drives, change them if you can
- Run the System File Checker tool then Check for Windows and GPU updates
-
Install/Repair your VC++ files for the game (Microsoft VC++ Link)
-
Try a new Windows User Account
-
Reset Windows Host File
- Change UAC Controls within Windows
Optional Registry clean-up
- install CCleaner (it's free) from here
- Run Registry cleaner
- Click fix all
- Do not back up files
If these do not work, Please post the following info so we can have it looked into as it may not be a game issue but a related EA App issue that is being tracked.
- Platform:
- Steam/EA Username:
- Date/time issue occurred
- What type of issue do you have? Technical/Install/account
- Summarize your bug:
- How often does the bug occur?
- What happens when the bug occurs?
- If possible, share a Screenshot or Clip...⬅️We love these
- Please share a DxDiag
- Error Report ID from the EA Reporter link

Did you have it try to install on the SSD by chance? I do not have an HDD to test with, and I saw one other post here that might've indicated that it doesn't like installing on the SSD, so I'm curious about that now.

@FaceCombat Apologies, I tested it on both drives to make sure there was no conflicting in the install path or old cached files on either drive. - falmark2 years agoRising Novice
Tried to install to both SSD and HDD and still same error. Also tired to install EA on the HDD and still the same. Guess ill have to keep plaing ME1 off my old PC

In my case, the error occurred before I could pick a drive.
I don't have time to test all the suggested steps yet. I hope I can make time to try it soon. - Fred_vdp2 years agoHero+
None of the troubleshooting steps worked. Here's the requested info:
Platform: EA app
EA Username: Fred_vdp
Date/time issue occurred: Last occurred Monday 8 May 2023 17:26 UTC
What type of issue do you have? Technical/Install/
accountSummarize your bug: Mass Effect 1 can't be installed from EA app.
How often does the bug occur? Everytime I try to download Mass Effect 1 (original).
What happens when the bug occurs? The EA app is calculating disk space. Very soon after I get the error "There's a problem with your download." No such issue with other games.

@Fred_vdp I appreciate that. I sent this info over to them for review. They requested more of these, so thank you for replying with that info. 👍

No problem. I play Mass Effect: Legendary Edition and own the Mass Effect games on disc, so I'm not really affected by this, but I hope this can be fixed for all the affected players who haven't moved on to the remaster.
I'm experiencing the same issue. I was attempting to uninstall and reinstall Mass Effect 1 when this happened. The issue is identical to the original post, right down to the timing of a brief display of the details window and then the error message before that window even populates.
