@Truzen_Hilpom I'm a little surprised that you view Rampart as pure defense and that you don't view Gibby's Ult as the most offensive part of his kit.
All these Legends fight defensively (I try to use Rampart offensively) but how would you change them? Keep in mind they have to remain competitive and most randoms favor a rush down style.

My reply is being deleted I don't know why. I was saying Rampart and every legend can and must attack with the team. But their abilities shouldn't be for that purpose. Their abilities have to be used to hold positions already conquered by the team, and not to assault a new one. That's the role of a machine gunner in a war, and Rampart is no exception. As for Caustic, there's no sense in a defensive legend with a damaging somoke granade. That's Bangalore's role.I don't have much knowledge to give sugestions. But I think something like letting only the teammates, and not Gibraltar itself, fire through his shield would be fine. Anything that turn his abilities into defensive ones.I fell like this game will take the same way as another game did, where initially there was a "defense" role on the game. But the way the community used these roles offensively has made the devs join together the offense and defense roles into a unique "damage" role. That would be a loss of style diversity on Apex Legends.- 5 years ago
@Truzen_Hilpom I was confused when your reply disappeared and it cancelled my own. Taking away offensive abilities and making the defensive part of their kit could be balanced but would probably fail.
Wattson is your ideal version of a defensive legend. Great at fortifying a location but no abilities based around attacking. She's considered top tier in competitive/pro game but trash on random teams.
Everyone favors an aggressive style of play and often ignores the setup of Caustic/Rampart/Wattson to push an opposing team. Such changes are unnecessary and run the risk of killing the character even if they're balanced/competitive on paper.

And that's why random players don't pick Rampart and Watson, but pick a lot of Gibraltar and Caustic. At least on gold IV on São Paulo server. People are picking defense charecters to attack. This prevents the charecter from being killed on the random players level but will kill the entire role if it keep going like this.Holding positiion doesn't mean to stop rushing. It's just to follow the teammates' rush to avoid being pushed back. I don't think this is bad and there's no need for a poison granade to do this task.
