Apostrophe displays as '

The "customer support representative" said he can't do anything and that no one has ever reported this. I find both of those statements so hard to believe that I think they are just outright lies. For some reason apostrophe's aren't displaying in-game. They display in the lobby, they display on Steam where my account name comes from, but when I get into a game, be it the range or an actual game, it displays as "'". I assume there is a very simple fix to this, but my "customer support rep" didn't help me. Can someone else help me?

  • @illMacAttackSo that's why people would randomly have that in their name. I've been seeing names with "'", along with those squares that means an emoji, symbol, or special font was used, (which isn't supported by the game).

"'" is an HTML entity code. When something cannot decode the apostrophe, it defaults to its code. Other symbols also have a code such as "&" being "&" and © being "©".

If I had to take a guess, this was to stop people from using symbols that allowed them to use game icons in their name (At one point people were able to run around with a name that looked like icons such as ammo, legend abilities, etc.)

Imagine running into someone with a png name of a Wingman, that's what people were doing. I've heard that got patched, but recently someone was running around with the Respawn logo, (and they were cheating). I don't know if using the Respawn logo got patched out or not, (or if the player had gotten banned yet).

I'm just surprised that your username isn't your EA account's username no matter what platform you're playing on. Fortnite already does this to some extent, (as in I remember my Switch name being the same as my PC name).

Edited: Like I've said, I've seen this a lot. This was from about an hour ago:
