Discouraging teamwork and winning - Badges, Trackers and Evo-shields

I'm probably going to make myself a big target here, but I'm tired of pretending that it's not an issue.

What's the best way to encourage teamwork in a game in which the goal is to be the last team standing? Exactly, by providing trackers and badges for most kills made or most damage dealt. Or by providing a body shield that levels up with the amount of damage dealt. Next thing we need now is a weapon that gains damage based on amount of kills made, and then we create the perfect, team-based game.

Let's put the sarcasm aside and let me point out the issue. I'm just going to make the bold claim that every second game I play pairs me with a predator of some sort. And even worse if they become a jump master. Because they will straight up drop you into a location which is very crowded, where of course many more predators find their way into. Not just is it frustrating to wait for almost 2 minutes from queue to finally dropping, it becomes even more frustrating when you get downed and/or killed 30 seconds after dropping so you can find your way back into the main menu. And this happens more times than I would like it to happen. And as someone who plays with randoms most of the time, it's almost unavoidable for me.

And to be honest, I blame how the game encourages you to do that. We have various trackers that show the amount of damage dealt or the amount of kills made. We have various badges that revolve around making a lot of kills or doing some - sorry - stupid stuff like "kill 20 people in a single game". And I believe since season 6 we have Evo Shields as normal body shields which of course become better based on how much damage was dealt. Obviously this encourages players to focus more on dealing damage or getting kills than trying to actually survive and win the game.

And funnily enough, winning isn't encouraged either because aside from ranked matches… What do you win? For the next game being the champion that gets hunted down? A tracker that almost nobody uses? Aside from these things, a win is like no win. We don't get stuff like legend tokens. We don't get crafting materials. We don't get loot. We get nothing from winning a game. So why win? We even "lose" something when we win. We give the guy who kills us free additional XP.

So really… The game revolves around making kills and dealing the most damage. At this point, creating a game mode that runs for 20 minutes, gives everyone infinite respawns and the one with the most kills wins would be more popular than the actual Battle Royale part. Because that's frankly what most people seem to care about.

My thoughts:

- remove trackers and badges, or move them to ranked only

- Replace evo-shields with normal body shields again

- Make winning relevant by giving out stuff for the winning team

My 2 pennies and probably my demise

  • @Peri_Longbow_plz They say solo mode was "unhealthy" for the game, while forcing things that makes people act solo, instead of a team. It makes no sense that they think its not healthy, while allowing duo/trio players to end up fight cuz someone got toxic.
  • @Midnight9746 This is the reason why solo is being requested to often. The game is designed around teamwork. Yet a lot of the game's rewards are focused around people who prefer to play solo and work against their team.

@Peri_Longbow_plz then play with friends, or go into gaming discord and grab someone with same attitute for a pub game, because most of skilled players play pubs just to warm up a bit, or to chill by just shooting people, we dont care about win, died? go next we play to have fun, we dont have fun looting on the edge for 20 minutes and then escaping every fight untill the end in a public game, we dont give a bonk about it. U only need to find 1 guy, and ul already be able to play duo`s the way u like. Devs never gonna remove something from the game, because people worked for it, wasted much time and ur like remove their achievments.
  • @Peri_Longbow_plz I don’t like the idea of removing badges and trackers from casual matches because I refuse to play ranked its a waste of time and Im not getting penalized when there server decides to kick me out for code leaf or something dumb, I also love evo shields... it theoretically forces you to do damage but not really because I end up swapping evo shields 3-5 times every game and just keep picking up better ones so i don’t even have to do damage to get a red tbh

The situation you described is one of the reasons I would like solos, somedays I want to play the game casually and not really play to win and it can get frustrating to land with randoms, die, sent back to the lobby, on repeat... if i drop solo I may survive atleast 5-10 minutes just messing around and I may third party and get a few kills it always makes people mad when a random solo wipes everyone and they just spectate like where did this dude come from for 5 minutes
  • @Peri_Longbow_plz You can definitely get high damage, high kill games playing a team unit. When I got my 3k damage badge, my teammates were with me and fighting the entire time. The wraith on my team broke 2000 damage and the Mirage on my team broke 900 damage. I ended up with 11 kills, I think the wraith had something 10 kills and the mirage had a few. I should have had more kills but there was a ton of third partying, 4th partying and so on happening.

I played a round with a forum member the other night, I had 1500-1600 damage, he had 2800. So high damage, high kill games are definitely possible as a team. You just have to play fast and push everything you see.

@TheApexLegendNub I don't play ranked for the sole reason that there are even more reasons to go on a killing spree. Kills give RP as far as I'm aware, so of course if you want quick RP, you want to have as many kills as possible.

This is why I said this game over-encourages you to play solely for kills. Winning and staying alive are two objectives that are awfully underwhelming and reward near to nothing.

And I don't mind if somebody in my team goes on a killing spree. If they're confident in their combat capabilities and they don't necessarily expect their entire team to go Rambo as well, they can do whatever they want. And if we win with him having 12 kills and 2800 damage dealt, I don't care. As long as a certain amount of focus is still put on survival and team-play.
  • I did this on Fuse a week or so ago but even though it is possible, it is a 1 in a million to get triple 2ks with randoms...
