Hop-up Booster

I noticed that hop-up boosters can't be stored in the inventory.

It would be nice to hold at least one (or two) hop-up boosters until a compatible weapon is found.

I landed right on a hop-up booster in Somers University and couldn't store it. Its a minor hindrance to find a compatible weapon and then backtrack to find the hop-up booster.

I just no-filled pubs to make sure I couldn't store it before submitting this post. I ran through Stacks and Geyser and didn't find a hop-up booster. Maybe the hop-up booster should be purple rarity, instead of blue, since they're not a lot of them in the loot pool.

I also searched for the hop-up booster in the Firing Range and couldn't find one.

Sorry if it wasn’t clear: I wasn’t saying that you can’t do anything with other items on the inventory screen or can’t unequip attachments. My point was that if you’re a casual player, you don’t need to ever look at inventory screen – you've picked an item, done. When Apex Legends came out this simplicity was praised and named as one of the factors of game’s success (often with comparisons to complicated inventory management of PUBG). I feel like simplicity of the interface is still important to keep the game approachable to newcomers.

Another thought: adding such feature just for Hop-up Boosters feels arbitrary. Why not Evo Cache? It would be great to keep it if you found it while being at Level 1 to use it later to go to Level 3. Why not an extra backpack? I found two purples and I want to bring the spare to my teammate. Why do I need to drop my Shield Core when I want to move a swap to a new sport? Right now, there’s a clear and easily understandable divide between items that can be carried in inventory and those that can’t, which again is important for game’s accessibility.

P.S. I’m not an accessibility or UX expert, so it’s quite possible that I’m overcomplicating the issue. But I felt that it’s important to raise these concerns to make an informed decision.

eldercitizen The Hop-Up Boosters are like Wildcard's EVO Orbs, in terms that it grants points towards unlocking a weapon's Hop-Up.

  • Does a hop-up booster swap from one weapon to another? For example, if a player switches from a Nemesis to a Havoc.

I would think that it does.

    I guess 😆

Does a hop-up booster immediately amp the weapon? Or does a player have to collect multiple before the weapon is amped?

Since the hop-up booster isn't in the Firing Range I'm not exactly sure how it's implemented.

Actually players have to use the inventory screen to store attachments, use stored attachments, and swap attachments for equipped weapons.

    Right?

Additionally, some players hold weapons (with no hop-up option), from a specific ammo class, until they can switch to a preferred weapon later in the game. For example, a player might on hold to a Volt until they can find a Nemesis.

Lastly, all other loot pool items can be stored. I don't think storing hop-up boosters is that complicated of an issue. 🤷‍♂️ I respect your opinions though.

This game mechanic works in Battlefield's Firestorm BR mode just fine.

Shouldn't be a problem in Apex.

    I play a lot of games. 🤭

  • I see your point, but this will also be a behavior that is different from all other inventory items, so it may be potentially confusing to new players. Also, there may be cases when a player has secondary gun that takes Hop-up Booster, but they want to change their primary weapon and use busters on it, which will not work in the auto-apply-to-compatible-gun model. Or maybe players would want to bring them to their teammate (something you can do with any other inventory item) despite having compatible weapons.

The idea itself isn’t bad; I just see complications with implementation.

  • eldercitizen Thanks for the suggestion!

One great feature of Apex Legends is that you never need to go to the inventory to use something. You pick an attachment – it automatically gets equipped to the current gun. You grab an Evac Tower – it’s ready to use via dedicated input button. This suggestion can’t work like that because not using Hop-up Booster on your current weapon is the whole point.

sashazyryanov The thing about Hop-Up Boosters is that those are instant use upon pickup, so realistically when a player picks up a compatible weapon, the Hop-Up Boosters could just automatically be applied from the inventory.

While I agree that this feature would be useful from the gameplay perspective, I believe it will make game’s interface much more complicated. And I don’t think this is a good trade.
