Improving Engagement and Retention

Followings are things that I read and heard from the community that make them stop playing. For each Problem [P], I will write possible Solutions [S] that have been proven to be effective in other popular games.

[P] Suboptimal Matchmaking (Highest skill rating rather than Total skill rating, solo/duo premade team keep being matched against trio premade team with much higher total skill rating or otherwise, low-rank players keep getting paired and matched against high skill rating players in their low ranks resulting in bad playing experience every match)
[S] I have written a detailed post to improve matchmaking here. TL;DR: Ranked should only use Rank-based matchmaking and not use SBMM, overshoot smurfs' RP to instantly converge the smurfs' RP to their actual RP to prevent them from staying in low ranks and ruining low-rank players. Pubs should use total skill rating instead of highest for best playing experience

[P] Often face opponents who
1. Perform neostrafe regardless of using config/script or not, and regardless of using octane (with/without stim) or not
2. Use config/script to tap strafe on a controller/to super glide with a 100% successful rate/to ease tap strafe
[S] Make an official announcement and a new patch to remove the ability to perform the 2 things above and ban those who do not comply.

[P] Do not have friends to team up with and the game feels lonely because players can't even chat before joining the party

[S] Improve the chat feature by
1. Adding Global, Local, team, and friend chat.
2. Add a red dot badge notification to the chat.
3. Click on the other player's badge and/or name to see their stats (players can choose stats visibility in the settings)
4. Click on the other player's badge and/or name to join the other player's party (players can choose "allow strangers to join party type" in the settings)

[P] Recycled cosmetics in store and too long refreshing frequency (3 days)
[S] Recycled cosmetics in store should be refreshed every day, new skins should come up at least once every month prioritizing the most used legend of the player base, having a monthly night market where players can choose (preferably) what skin they want to have at a discounted price

[P] Lack of content and game mode

[S]Bring back three strikes. The reason why many players enjoy three strikes is because the percentage of time they are engaged in a fight compared to queue and looting is high relative to other game modes. Even control, team deathmatch of most maps requires the player to walk a long distance from the spawn location to the crowded spot to be engaged in a fight. The gun run is not that great as it uses many weapons that a player might not be comfortable using. Furthermore, Three Strikes uses a real map being used for ranked matches which is more relevant.

Another idea of LTM that is worth trying:

- BR mode but starts at Ring 2 or 3 with nades cooldown every 1 minute, infinite healing, ammo, and respawn (the dying team will have to jump from the plane again) and the champion team is based on total kill

- Control/team deathmatch with a smaller map

[P] Club feature feels useless

[S] Add mission, leaderboard, and store tab within the club tab.

1. Mission: Some but not all missions should be related to club, e.g. play with club members, give likes to club members, assist/revive/club member, etc.
2. Leaderboard: Sort based on how active the overall club is (total kill, damage, assist, hours played, etc) compared to all Clubs globally (or region/local). Also provide high-quality temporary (1-season) in-game rewards to attract people to participate actively in the Club missions and to party up with Club members. Pasty up with club members should boost up club participation significantly.
3. Store: Provide both temporary/permanent in-game rewards. Permanent in-game rewards should require much higher overall club participation point

[P] No purpose in playing after being stuck in the same state (same skill rating, same rank) for a long time
[S] Add a "Leaderboard" tab in the Lobby between the "Seasonal" and "Legends" tab. Achieving leaderboard must give very good temporary in-game rewards (1/more season for Global and 1/more week for Region depending on the subdivision of the region as mentioned in the Note below point [1]).

Recommended rewards examples :
- Title to be shown in the Lobby under the player's name tag in the lobby and Player's Banner (S18 #1 Predator, World #1 Horizon, France #1 Terminator, New York #1 Clutch, Miami #1 Skirmisher, World #1 Trio Wins), Skydive Trail (Trail with colour and number showing their leaderboard type and ranking)
- Icons for each specific leaderboard type (Red glowing diamond with number/ranking for Global, Purple glowing diamond with number/ranking for Region, Blue glowing diamond with number/ranking for Country, Light blue less glowing diamond with number/ranking for Province, etc). This icon is to replace the current "View stats" and the PC/Console logo under the player's name tag in the lobby. The icon can also be shown in the player's banner.
- Aura around body and/or feet for the legend in the Lobby


UX Idea:

a) First, there should be a drop-down to filter based on the season (including current)

b) Then each season has 3 tabs: Global, Region, and Friend.

c) For each of these, there should be 4 tabs: Ranked, Overall Rating, Elimination Rating (Kills, Damage, Assist), and Survival Rating (Hours survived) with Ranked being highlighted and dominant compared to the other 3 tabs

d) For Ranked, there should be 3 tabs: RP, KP, LP

Note:
- Behind the scenes, the Region tab should consider further subdivision if supported, e.g. country, province, city, landmark, etc. This will encourage players who don't play that much to still earn a leaderboard in the smallest subdivision. Playing more will promote them to reach the leaderboard in the province, etc. Higher subdivision should reward longer temporary in-game rewards.
- For each subsection of the leaderboard, it should also put the player to know what rank they are currently (if they are far from the Top 100 Leaderboard, then simply put the percentage, e.g. Top 85.25%)

- For the selected player in the leaderboard, the most used legend is to be displayed (standing pose just like a lobby) on the left while moving too, with the Level badge, name, and all other temporary leaderboard icons on top of the legend display. Pressing the level badge/name will redirect to the player banner/stats (player will have the option to turn off stats but no banner)

    It's always interesting to me what some players consider to be problematic when other players don't even notice....

    On that entire list the only thing I would have said was an issue for me personally is "Suboptimal Matchmaking," and while I like the solution, I'm cynical enough after 25 years of suboptimal matchmaking across every game I've ever played that I'm not sure there is anything fixable. But A for effort nonetheless.

    And even though the other issues are not issues for me, I certainly appreciate the thought that went into this. There's nothing on the list I wouldn't like to see addressed, and in exactly the way you described, especially if I thought it would bolster the player count.

    But here is my single biggest takeaway: "overshoot smurfs' RP to instantly converge the smurfs' RP to their actual RP to prevent them from staying in low ranks and ruining low-rank players." If they were going to do even just one thing on your list then this would be the thing to do.

    Great feedback and Idea's keep them coming maybe if we/you are lucky we may see some form of one or more of your suggestions incorporated, you never know.

    Happy to hear that! I wish the dev would make another blog to explain their thoughts regarding my feedback.

    It would also be great if there is a pinned post at each subsection of this forum comprising the team's answer to the most popular feedbacks, so the community knows that the team is listening and what are the team's thoughts for each action they take.
