Increased ring damage ruining Apex

So I wrote about this same subject in the elite mode and now I have to bring it up regarding normal Apex. In my opinion the increased ring damage is ruining the game, it is certainly spoiling my experience.

For me Apex is all about fighting and combat, and prior to the season 2 update I would never run away from a fight. If I saw another team I would be in the and attacking as fast as I could.

Now that is no longer possible, if I see another team I have to look at the ring time and if there is less than a minute or so left I will probably just let it be and not engage. I'll basically run away rather than fighting, which I hate doing.... but if you get caught mid-battle when the ring comes in chances are you will all die.

Trying to run away mid combat is very dangerous and will usually get you killed (which is good), so once engaged you kinda have to see it through, but the early ring damage is so high now that you can't fight for long, if you do you spend all your time healing (if you have enough meds) and even if you win you won't have time to loot and often won't have the health to make it to the next zone!!!

Is this what we want Apex to be? A game where people run away from fights and then camp inside the zone to ambush and get cheap kills on those who did fight? Cos that is what is happening... I have seen more campers since the update and I myself so often find myself saying, lets not get involved we don't have the time... and if we do fight, often nobody wins and everyone dies to the ring.

I'd love to know the stats on how many players are killed in combat and how many die to the ring now... bet the latter is MUCH higher than it was before. Where's the fun in winning a Battle Royale game if half the players are killed by the environment?

I know some people complain about players camping/looting outside the ring... but so what, why is that any kind of problem?!? They have to come fight eventually!! All this change does is penalize all the players who do want to fight for doing, so and hand power over to nade spamming camping spods who want to get cheap kills.

I don't see how anyone can think this change makes apex better. How does penalizing players who stay and fight by either killing them or leaving them so weak once they make the zone they can all be taken down by a camping lifeline with 4 nades and a mozambique improve Apex?

Please, please, please consider putting the ring damage back how it was for rings 1 and 2 (if nothing else). All this change does is discourage players from getting into combat and increases the possibility to get cheap kills.

TL;DR - Season 2 ring damage is way too high and actively encourages players to run away from fights and/or camp certain zones on the map. In battle royale you want players dying to combat, who wants to win if half players died to environment?! Season 1 damage was way better and allowed players to do what we're here for, FIGHTING, without penalizing them heavily for doing so. Increased ring damage makes Apex a worse game imo.

The ring is a constant threat you have to take into consideration constantly. Make a mistake with it and you are gone, its the same for everybody so its a level playing field.

I got caught with a small ring being on 2 sides of a mountain, with 4 squads left and had to make a choice. I made the wrong choice, but got killed by the other squad who had also made the same wrong choice, they promptly passed away too. So be it!

It amazing how some people don’t get this.

  • I agree.. Although we're now in season 3. The last two rings are ridiculously horrible. My squadmate and I just spent an entire game wiping out 4 other squads. only to be forced to run around a F**King mountain by the ring on world's edge. The ring literally hit more than half my HP in one shot and it ignores armor too. there is no time to even attempt to heal yourself.

We wiped out 4 squads only to let the last team win because they were lucky enough to be on the other side of the F**King mountain with no possible way through it and getting killed by the ring killing you before you can press your medkit bind. even in the case where you can pull it out and start healing.. you will be killed anyway directly after that medkit heals you to full hp

What the * EA. what the actual *. I haven't been this pissed off at a game in a good amount of time.

I agree with the OP.  Running away from fights deliberately to get into the zone isn't fun at all and ruins the BR experience.

The ring damage size needs to be moved back closer to season 1.  The ring serves a purpose but it's a bit too much at the moment. The current ring damage size encourages More camping not less

@RP_Options Yeah I still think this is a problem and undermines an important part of the game. The problem was made even worse in a S3 update as they increased the ring speed so you couldn't even outrun it. The other thing with S3 is the map, which has some serious bottlenecks which are easy for players to camp and wait... that, increased ring damage and speed is, imo, encouraging passive, safe, camping type play and punishing people for taking chances, fighting and being aggressive. Mechanically Apex is such a fast, fluide and kinetic game it seems a shame to undermine that with this meta of having to fight/beat the ring itself more than the other players.

  • And yet that ring is * broken. If you cant survive in ring number 2 which is still half of map and if you revieve your team mate they cant survive by healing them selves. * sad that ring kills more than that full lobby of noob players.

  • Don't spent hours to loot outside the ring, or to go in the opposite ring direction for the loot. It's that simple.

Almost every time I get killed because teammates take to long to go to the next ring location, cause of loot, or a fight, that was not needed to get started.

Is it that hard to go inside the ring at right time? If everyone would go as fast as possible, there would be or actually is enough time to also fight inside.

Smart people go in, and wait to kill these guys, that had to fight at the ring boarder. That's your own mistake or risk, and you make your selve an easy kill. To complain about that is not the problem of others, but yours.

At the END, the nature of a battle royale game is to survive at the end, not to kill 60 people and survive. Yeah it maybe less fun, but kills are not the goal, just saying...

So maybe Battlefield or COD is the better game for those people. There you need kills, to get most points as possible. Surviving is not an option.

  • @Rep3 Only way to survive ring 2 after knock is golden backpack, or if Lifeline throws the drone right after picking you up. If Lifeline is the one getting picked up, her drone might not deploy in time.

I like the ring damage now.  And ‘camping’ outside the ring is only effective is for some reason you were ignoring that people can be outside the ring.  Was never even an issue after 2nd ring.

its a damage ring not a wall.  Maybe it should be a wall?  Doesn’t matter to me more ring damage is better.

  • I agree. Sometimes I cannot even outrun the ring, not even when I holster the weapon.

Also, I have seen many people camping just inside the zone, waiting for other players still in the storm to come at them. I killed 4 that way too, and I am still a noob in this game. Just saying.

The ring is beyond special at this point, Every single game im trying to run through circle 2 well beyond half way across the damn map. I have to carry 12 sryn just to be able to make it to circle in round 2 and med kits. I have burned through one game 16 sryng and 4 med kits before i finally was able to make it into the ring. The damage is not so much the problem its the distance at which ring 2 closes on.
