Making knockdown shields actually useful, and removing self-revive cheese.
To start with, the hit reg on knockdown shields is atrocious since it is based on the shooter not the defender. So far too often you see yourself just being shot clean through the shield and there is next to nothing you can do about it other than to just flail and hope the shield blocks wherever the enemy client says they shot at. Its also just as bad when you try to protect someone with it and they just get shot clean through it anyway. All around, the system is atrocious and so easily manipulated that knockdown shields are mostly pointless unless you can back yourself into a corner.
That and of course the self-revive is an issue that not only encourages people to thirst down players (which is really no fun for the game at all) or be punished for not doing so if they had a gold shield. So that I recommend the following changes:
- Remove self-res from the gold shield, instead give the gold shield infinite shield HP (applies to Newcastle's passive as well), and makes the player immune to finishers while the shield is active. [There won't be any cheese because the self-res is gone, so they will just die if they are the last team member anyway]
- Change the oval barrier into a body-shield effect that is only active when used. (That way no hitreg shenanigans or rotating people through finishers to bypass the shield because it is a body wide effect)
- Players can no longer move while the shield effect is active. (I would recommend making it so that if you stand still the shield auto-activates, so no finisher spamming to try and bypass it.)
And there you have it. Gold shields are valuable, players are not punished for not thirsting, are disincentivized from doing so, and there won't be anymore atrocious hitreg battles with knockdown shields.
