I know what you're talking about, and I couldn't agree more. This game definitely has some serious learning curve issues that can be solved, as it currently seems, only by the right matchmaking. The huge TTK difference between the body shots and headshots makes it quite impossible for the less skilled shooter to use map awareness and tactics to win a fight. I've seen pro players getting out of really bad tactical situations only by killing enemies unbelievably fast. It's why, for example, in Titanfall 2 the very same players can get a much higher kill count in significantly smaller game time - the TTK is fast for everybody, so you can outsmart even a seasoned pro.
BTW. Don't get upset by some unsupportive people who tell you that thousands of kills are a normal skill level. It's not. For every player with 1000+ kills, you'll meet four players with 200/300/400 kills on a single character or even less.
@ilya_lizard thanks! Esp liked your comment about shot placement and TTK. While I'm simply trying to hit an enemy anywhere, still not that great at aim, the really good players are aiming and hitting me in the head.
I don't know how many times I've won the tactical battle, began firing first, only to have the enemy turn, strafe, and hit me once/twice and knock me down (happens to my daughter too and she always claims the person is cheating 🙂).
It's just the skill gap because I've hit people in the head before (rare and mostly luck) and seen em drop immediately and say, "Whoa, that was cool!"
Here's to hoping matchmaking is better in season 2. Downloaded it yesterday and hope to have time to play it this weekend!
@A7RDF ...Hey there...so we've gotten some playing time in season 2 after the holiday and have had similar experiences. Solo matchmaking is still pretty decent (maybe better) and each of us have more competitive, fun games when we solo. When we party up and get one random, matchmaking still seems nonexistent which is big a disappointment cuz the skill level disparity is way out of whack.
I tried to solo in Ranked and matchmaking was a joke, but not surprising based on the way they rolled it out (why start everyone at the same level?!). Maybe once the Avg to above average players level up ranked will allow for good matchmaking and we'll give it another try.
We haven't given up on it, but interest is starting to wane for sure, and frustration level continues to grow.

I dont owe a copy of it, but from what i hear its underrated and it seems to be a good and decent game from a few videos i've seen,.

@A7RDF how is your journey in Apex ranked coming along? What level have you reached?
With the addition of Wattson and changes to existing "defensive" legends like Gibraltar, are you seeing less aggressive play, maybe a bit campy, at the higher levels than you expected?
We're still playing in the regular queue trying to get better. Circumstances have allowed me to play a lot more than normal the past couple of weeks so we got the Battle Pass. That has made the game more fun and motivated us to try different Legends, landing zones, and weapons.
My daughter has played ranked solo and really enjoyed it since the matchmaking is pretty good. I plan to test the ranked waters again soon.
Party matchmaking has still been a sore spot, although we had a pretty good1-2 hour session this past weekend (regular q). Pretty good as in about 75% were unwinnable and the other 25% were competitive. Even had a match we came in 2nd, and couldda won (no we didn't camp the whole time 😃). That session was better than the previous 5 or so sessions. Partly because we're improving and partly due to luck of the draw.
Still hoping matchmaking gets better for parties, and hope ranked matches are evenly matched.
