Octane's Buff and Patching

I main octane and I do alright, but his buffs did nothing for team utility...buffing his jumppad still allows nothing special. Especially when facing good players that can shoot you out of the sky.

I honestly didn't even know about the running healing til they did a patch today.

For additional passives I think one of the following would help teams:

1. Fast rez. (Octane is supposed to be fast, right? Still not my 1st choice of a passive.)

2. Team shared octane swift mend (this is meh.)

Or

3. A team speed aura within 1-75meters where octane is and give the team mates a 10-25% speed up, on use of the stim for the duration of the stim. (My most preferred suggestion. Obviously range would need to be considered and decided. Maybe call it "Adrenaline Aura")

For his Ult.

1. That second jump needs a bigger/faster boost/push/acceleration in a selected direction so as not to be shot down as easily.

  • @KoribanSithLord1 The ult buff could work.
The passives, not really. All 3 are support abilities and wouldn’t really fit Octane as an attack/assault character.
The Adrenaline Aura is an okay idea, but it kind of sounds really strong and also not fit Octane as a character.
  • @Sir_Named But wraith can get a portal to escape out of bad situations or place near a downed player for a rez or used for attack? Doesn't this seem like a support/attack ability also?

A speed buff to teamates upon stim would be decent to have your whole team push into a fight. Seems very attack based to me.

Octane needs something else for the team, the speed aura may not be it. The idea needs a lot of tweaking.

    But somethings gotta give.

@KoribanSithLord1 Wraith’s abilities are for repositioning, so she could be used for support, but isn’t meant to be a support.

Octane does need something for the team, but I don’t think a “speed aura” is it.

  • @Sir_Named her ult still is used for support and attacking. I can't even keep track how many times someones set a portal near me for rezzing for me to crawl through or helped the squad get out of a bad situation. Like you said to reposition. She is an assault character so having some support type of ability isn't a bad thing (Mirage, Revenant, & Bangalore, have a support type of tactical/passive if used a certain way) it shouldn't rule out all abilities just because the ability that may come, can be used as a support type.

Relooking at what i wrote about octanes speed aura was something i came up with on the fly and it would be OP since octane can stim over and over again.

Octane in the end needs something else. The ult change i suggested may not be good enough, but i think it's a step in the right direction.

Since some characters have a few passives, octane should get something else to help bring him up the tier list and give him the team utility they were saying, but never gave him.

Suggestions are by all means welcome 🙏

@KoribanSithLord1True, it’s just that since repositioning abilities can do much more than just support, they aren’t really support abilities.

Honestly, it’s just easy to shoot down ideas.

I don’t really know, and I’m not sure anyone knows what to do without a complete rework of all of his abilities. The double jump option was one of the more popular ideas, but now that it’s in the game, we still need a bit more.

I’m trying to think of an idea right now, but all I’ve really got is some team ability tied to the machine that filters Octane’s blood.
Maybe teammates can gather around him for 5 seconds and get a 10% speed boost from the used Stim? That sounds kind of gross though.
Let me try and flesh it out.
Octane has to stay still and not take damage while doing this. Teammates can attach using tubes (like Lifeline drone tubes) to the blood filtering machine, where they get pumped with old Stim for (x) seconds, after which they get a nonstackable minor (like 10%, at most 15%) speed boost for (x) amount of time.

Edit: Maybe add some kind of buildup meter? The more Stim he uses, the more it builds up. The more buildup, the more speed when his team sucks spare Stim out of him?

  • @Sir_Named it's a decent idea. The animations and potential slow down of having to wait around team mates to gather around me while i sit still for them to get some speed seems conflicting. Maybe combine the speed aura idea with the way you laid out the numbers for stacking and etc. Would be the best way to do it. Make the range 5-15meters.

With all that i think it would be pretty balanced.
