Please consider adding more fine tuning options for controllers. (XO/PS4)

Even though i don't have a lot of interest in the Battle Royale genre, Apex honestly caught my attention since i started playing it a week or so ago. It's gameplay, mechanics, art, inventory system... They are really damn good and polished, and it's one of the games i've had the most fun in, in recent times, and i've only been playing it for around a week now.

But not everything is currently perfect, Although the game itself is really good, from my perspective (i've been playing mainly FPS games, on a controller for over 13 years now) the controller tuning options are.... Not great to say the least, and massively hamper my (and that of many others) ability to enjoy the game, and be successful when playing. My main points of feedback are;

You can't disable aim assist, which is FAR from ideal, as it makes the feel of the aim when tracking highly inconsistent, and sluggish, and it makes switching between nearby targets a chore, as the aim gets sticky, sluggish and unresponsive. (not everyone that plays with a controller likes aim assist, or any type of assists interrupting with their aiming, please consider that, Respawn).

You also can't customize the **maximum input** deadzones for the sticks  separately from the input deadzones, which is a vital point in getting a controller to feel right and responsive in a shooter. Even if you have a small input deadzone, if the **maximum input** deadzone is large, you will still have to move the stick outside of the inner 20% zone, to get any type of meaningful movement on the game, which pretty much defeats the function of a small input deadzone to begin with, and makes being granular, accurate and precise essentially impossible.

Another point that i would like to see added, is the option for higher sensitivities, the current maximum sensitivity in the game (8) is just not fast enough, i'm used to playing with 100% sensitivity in Battlefield, and it feels infinitely faster and more usable than the current max sensitivity on Apex. (I'm not comparing the two games to make an argument that one is better than the other in any way, shape, or form, i'm simply trying to give a reference point to you, the developers, regarding what could be done to improve upon your current configurations model).

Lastly, instead of simple toggles that don't allow for much control over each setting, i would personally like to see more granular, and numbered options or sliders for customizing each setting to your liking (such as: a "0 to 20" slider for input and maximum input stick deadzones, a "1 to 20" slider for sensitivity, and etc, to give you more options, and more fine control over how you want each setting to feel and behave).

I know the points that i've mentioned are rarely brought up, and most people ignore them or don't see much worth on them compared to feedback related to the actual game itself, but personally (and for many other players like myself), having those types of options, to guide the feel of the aiming to your standards, preferences and likings is critical, because well, in a shooter game the main point of it is aiming and shooting, and if the aiming and shooting is not  in a good spot, then i think it's fair to say that you won't be able to enjoy the actual game, which i haven't be able to enjoy as much as i want to, solely for the reasons i mentioned above.

Arguably the majority of your playerbase is playing Apex on either an Xbox One (like myself), or on a PS4, with a controller, and the problems i've mentioned above can and do seriously hamper the ability of quite a few of your players, both in terms of their literal ability when aiming (vital for their enjoyment), and most importantly, their ability to have fun, and enjoy themselves while playing the incredibly polished game you guys and girls have made.

Thank you for reading, and just as a last note, i want to thank you Respawn for adding an FoV slider to the console version of Apex, i (and many others) was really damn happy when i saw it as an option in the menus! GGWP.

  • Too many sensitivity options will give mouse & keyboard cheaters a bigger advantage. I know Bungie keep their sensitivity options simplistic to combat M&K cheaters. Respawn are probably going with the same approach. I play default on console and find aiming smooth and responsive on a regular DS4.

    But is it fair to negate those options to millions of players, just so you can combat a couple thousand that use MK adapters? And compared to BF5 (the game with the best controller options in my opinion) for example, Apex simply feels worse, objectively speaking there's simply less options, precisely in the places where there should be more of them, and i'm not asking for every option BF5 has to be included, i'm simply asking for 3 points that should've been available from the start. If the aiming feels off, that can easily ruin your enjoyment of the entire game, that's not a place where simplification should exist, and corners shouldn't be cut there. And compared to other games, the deadzones and sensitivity of Apex aren't atrociously bad (i played around the testing area for around 1H, and because there's no AA there, the aiming felt pretty alright, although not perfect because of the points i've already mentioned), the issue for me comes with the aim assist, which can't be turned off. Not everyone enjoy playing with aim assist (and i can actually perform a LOT better without it, in every game i play), and the option to turn it off is standard in 99% of shooters on console, and the fact that option isn't available on Apex single handedly makes me not want to play it.
  • Agreed, used to playing on insane sensitivity on Call of Duty, so 8 sensitivity on Apex is a laugh
