Re: Remove octane stim damage

Haven't you already suggested this before?  It feels familiar.  

Removing his stim damage would make him way too powerful without slapping a big cooldown on his tactical.  I know other characters have ways to escape a tricky situation, but plenty don't.  Why should Octane have an ability that would allow him to escape any situation with no downside for himself?  He already has, because of the very low cooldown, a high chance that he can throw down a jump-pad and get away anyway.

I feel like he is in a pretty good place right now, you still see plenty of them around.  I personally find most random people I encounter playing him to be irritants though.  If they want to stim around early game grabbing loot from the bin that I just opened before running off to open the next one, and the next one before I can get there then he can end up on half health for all I care.

  • @Piabetic yeah but the thing is.. those that dont have that ability for one have a defensive/supportativce ability/abilities which the dont have to pay for.
    Also the jump pad is in no way really helpful when trying to escape a close range fight as enemies will just follow you on it. Pretty sure you see plenty because he's just the most "fun" as he's fast and easy to learn.
    At the end of the day I think something between the current and old state would be better as the infinitve stim doesnt help octane players that much with the amount of health you have to pay for it - which in many cases leads to your death when stimming more than once.
    And also it's even more annoying for players who try to follow octanes at the same time so I dont see where the nerf really was that much of a good descision imo.

    @ChrysIsChrisis Fair enough, but I just cant see taking the stim damage away is a solution. One idea though might be something like you have in games like BF1 and BF5 with the bayonet charge. You can charge faster for a brief period of time, but then you have to pay that back by then moving slower than normal for a few seconds.

    I just really dread the thought of a server full of octanes that can still zip around but have no penalty for doing so. I think it would just break the game.

    @TperodactylI stand by what I said and am baffled that you stubbornly don't think it is powerful. In a game built on mobility it is extremely powerful to be able to move as fast as Octane can and its not a few seconds is it? It lasts several seconds and you can just do it again if you need to when it expires. Octanes cause all manner of problems and you just cant catch them if they don't want to fight.

    You realise the whole reason for the health damage is to discourage Octanes from constantly spamming the stim because the developers know it is one of, if not the, best abilities in the game and there has to be a downside to using it. You seem to think its unfair that you have to damage yourself to use it, whereas I think its unfair that you can even do it in the first place. Imagine if they took away the cooldown for Pathfinders grapple, would you think that would make for a fair and balanced game?

  • @Tperodactyl You don't see a problem with the ability to chase someone down with ease as they are trying to heal and then killing them and running out without any worries? He's basically old pathfinder. Grapple in, grapple to chase, grapple away. It's complete aids to fight against. Where's the speed buff for Caustic to chase you down? Where's the speed buff for Crypto to chase you down? Where's the speed buff for Mirage to chase you down. Octane is literally the perfect legend and needs to be nerfed. He has one of the best mobilities. His ult is such a low cooldown you can jump pad into a fight from across the map and when the fight is over jump pad away so third parties can't come to you. He gets free healing over time that makes Wattsons shield regen passive look like a joke. Then add in the fact that hes one of the smallest legends and you have yourself a pristine legend that sees just as much play rate as any of the other busted legends. He's not picked all the time because he's fun. He's picked because he's broken. You think every single person picking bloodhound picks him because he's fun? No they want wall hacks every 20 seconds that scans an entire map area and an ult that literally highlights enemies while giving him super speed so when he spam crouch strafs he's impossible to hit. You think lifeline abusers think she's fun? No they just want to res their teammates with a click of a button rather than channeling it like every other legend in the game.
    Octane needs nerfs and I think the only way to do it is making his ult cooldown longer and maybe even adding in if he's below 25 health he downs himself with the stim. The fact you can endlessly stim away from enemies and end up on the other side of the map in seconds is a joke.
