Solution To Teammates Dropping Out: A Discussion
Hey guys,
I’m sure people have made posts like this before, and I thought about whether or not I should even give my two cents, but my hope is that maybe the developers will see this and think about this possible solution to having people drop out.
First off, I am only discussing people dropping out of non ranked Battle Royale. This is not a discussion about anything else. But I’ll cut to the chase and then in full depth explain why I think this might work.
My Solution: If people quit a match before their timer expires, make it so everything they earned in that match is erased. Everything. Not just their deaths, but their kills, their assists, and any badges that might’ve come with it. This should keep people from trying to get kills only to leave and not get a death in hopes to keep their KDR from falling, but also allow people to leave early in the match if they have found that their squad is not playing as a productive team.
My theory is this: People leave so early for a multitude of reasons, and more often than not I could see some of those reasons being justifiable. But if Apex is truly going to make it count as a death in the future regardless of how it starts then this really isn’t fair for some players in certain circumstances. Below will be a plethora of reasons why punishing someone for leaving early might not be the right idea.
1) Missing a third teammate: Of course people can argue that games like Halo and Call of Duty do this all the time. The opposing team has their entire rooster full before the fight begins, while your team might be missing someone. The big difference here though is those type of games usually consist of much bigger teams. Teams of 6-12 players, if not more, which means having only one less player might not hinder you as much as you think. Apex on the other hand, missing one teammate when you are in the character select screen because the game didn’t match you with one is a huge problem. There are only three of you, which means if you are missing someone that is 33% of your entire team, a much bigger percentage than if you were playing a team death match.
2) Doing daily/weekly challenges: I realize no one ever said you had to do challenges, but is it really fair to say that you are going to be penalized if you have to play as someone you’re not good with? Or have to use marksman weapons if you’re better with shotguns? Not to mention you may have other teammates who are struggling with the exact same thing, teammates who aren’t as focused on winning as they are completing challenges since they paid for the season.
3) Bad Jump Master: I’ll be honest, if my Jump Master drops and doesn’t tell me where we are going I will break off and do something else. There are people who will feel the same way and people who feel the exact opposite and that’s okay. But there are places I really hate going and hot drops are not always a good idea, especially if you see half the ship drop to OverLook and then after 10 seconds your jump master decides to go to the same location. By the time you arrive, not only will all the loot be gone, but your chances of getting an easy death - to no fault of your own - are extremely high.
4) Bad Teammates: We’ve all had them and we’ve all been them at some point. You tell your team where you’re going or try and loot a box only to have your teammate suffocate you or have a teammate who rushes a fight when you haven’t even found a weapon yet. This could make or break your match, especially if you don’t want to communicate or can’t communicate with a microphone. People are sometimes introverted. People enjoy talking with people at times - it’s easier for me when my team is also down to earth - but when you hear them start talking trash or playing music in the background it is only going to make your chances of a fair game drop.
5) The Coloring Of Character Select (?): I’ve wondered about this for a while now. When you pick a character you are one of three colors. The orange player, the green player, or the blue player. One of these colors are my favorite colors, yet I rarely ever get to be it. Which makes me wonder, developers…does being a specific color mean something? Like do orange players tend to play more defensive? Do blue players steal loot more? Do green players rage quite more than their two players they are teamed with? I hope not, but if so then on some level this is messed up.
6) Poor Skill Match Making: I am no Apex Predator, but I have had many games where my teammates aren’t even passed level 100 and the champion squad has all 3 players with 20 bombs, 4K badges, and over 5,000 kills. How in any way am I suppose to compete with that?
7) Bad Luck: When you drop and after opening you’re sixth supply bin you still haven’t found a weapon. Or you open four supply bins and only find Mozambiques in each of them. The game is supposed to be generating these items at random but there are games where back to back I don’t find anything. Meanwhile the opposing teams find Spitfires, R-301s, and when I finally find a weapon it’s a P2020.
I’m not asking anyone to agree with me or chew me out for making stupid excuses. But there are different perspectives to look at when someone leaves and what might make them want to stay. I do think my solution would help though. Let me know what you guys think and have a fun and safe holiday.
