Why are knockdown shields useless (to me anyway)?

I've gotten to the point where I'm about ready to just drop my white knockdown shield when I first land and go shield-less because it's completely useless when I use it. I don't know if I'm using it wrong or what, but literally every time I get knocked down, it's like it's not even there...

Most games that I get knocked, I get thirsted immediately (or just get a finisher dropped on me because my random teammates don't know I exist). If I have a better shield that can take a few hits, I'll try to block and buy some time. The thing is, it's like I'm not even holding one almost every time I try to use one. I either die faster than I can bring it up (even if it comes up on my screen), I can't turn fast enough to block the person who looks like they can strafe around me faster than the flash, or it looks like they're shooting right though it (especially around the corners when they're strafing).

Meanwhile, if I down someone, their shield works perfectly fine. Takes all my bullets and they can usually keep up with my strafing...

So what am I doing wrong? Am I doing anything wrong? Is it because my internet makes things lag, so I'm just that fraction of a second off on my screen vs. their screen?

  • @jokool_aid A poor connection would make it impossible to track and block shots but there are other factors. The range you got knocked at and how reactive your team is to you taking damage. If you're knocked in close range you can easily be finished no matter what shield level you have. The usual method is to side step to the right and bait you to track that way then slide back to the left and shoot you in the back.

If you're dropped mid or long range then they won't be able to bypass your shield without decent accuracy but in any case your survival depends on your team. Crappy teammates that don't notice you're in trouble? You have no chance of survival.

I guess avoid fighting close-range alone, try not to get dropped in the open, and communicate with your team the second you need help not the second you get downed is my advice.

  • Doesn't matter the distance, they'll still shoot through it even if you're looking directly at them with the shield 200m away.
