Zone damage to strong
Unfortunately the zone does too much damage. In no game have you died through the zone more often than in Apex. In addition, zone phases that are too short.

This wasn't always the case, but back when the zone did less damage, a large portion of the game would be spent by players inside of the zone.
This had actually become quite problematic, as in this case the zone would not pose a threat in any way whatsoever. Personally I feel like the zone should be a threat. Currently it's not impossible to stay inside of the zone and loot early-game, but I definitely don't think it's a place where people should be hanging around too long. (This is why they also added an extra separate timer that will kill players if they stay in the zone for too long)
To get to ring level 4 it already roughly takes around 14 minutes, which I personally believe is a good time for a BR ring to close. If it were to take longer for the ring to close, and the ring were to do less damage, this would mean that it would be much harder to encounter other teams, as larger sections of the map would be available and therefore the density of players at certain players would become lower. Which IMO would not make gameplay all too fun since you'd just be searching for teams constantly.
I don't play a lot of different BR's so I'm not sure how well it compares to other games, but I don't think it's bad for Apex to be different. After all, why have different games if they're going to designed to be the same anyways?
Though, what is it that you would like to see?
Would you increase the time it takes for rings to close and make the ring do less damage?
If so, why would you want that? Is it that you want matches to take longer, or is it that you don't feel like you have enough time to loot?
