I'm careful about taking the first fight, since that's a very good recipe to get sandwitched if I can't close the fight really fast. I'm more confident, if I have not seen other teams drop nearby (but then there's the "where did they come from???" moments). And I'm usually very confident in 3rd partying - start from the team that seems to be winning (but preferrably before their fight is over - gotta put some pressure on all of them) and wipe them all. However, the small map and high mobility brings Apex to yet another level - 4th and even 5th partying is common here. And that's exciting, since that makes random 3rd partying (without much situational awareness of other teams) still not a safe and sound tactic.
The general rule should be this: the later you join the fray, the more safe you could feel. Although gotta keep in mind that the team that actually survived a 4-way fight is not going to be easy to take down, since they've already shown they can fight well.
And if I get sandwitched myself, I always try to become the party that's on the edge and not the one in the middle (evasive maneuvers, distraction, hiding, whatever means available) - make my opponents fight the 3rd party and eventually "4th party" (well technically incorrect, since there's still only 3 teams involved) the 3rd party.
I love when 3rd parties come a knocking we are there and ready to say hi just have to push fights anytime you have a chance to push forward do it and you will have the first squad dead 90 percent of the time before the second squad shows up
and map awareness is also a big help
What do others think, does the chance of a third team sweeping in dictate how you play?
Of course. It's a big part of the game. Knowing if/when to engage, and knowing that someone could be nearby to take advantage of you being distracted.
Honestly I think it works. In Fortnite, Pubg, Blackout, etc third parties happen in all but, in this game it works because you can still rotate fast enough and most of the time when the game is running smooth you can pop an alt and flank them putting them now in the middle or just straight kill all of em and go for big kill games. It's not always overwhelming. Sometimes you are going to get merc'd fast when someone sneeks up on you but hey that happens in all BR's.
Me: I don't want other teams to break up a fair fight. <Proceeds to choose one of the few games that has not two but TWENTY teams>
I hope I made that sound as silly to you as it does to me.
There are nearly 3 good decades of multiplayer FPS games that do what you want and somehow you still ended up here.

It's an interesting game mechanic and something I really like as it means that you are never really safe. You may be able to get the drop on a team but you then have to be constantly aware of your surroundings as you are never truly safe.

DarkoI love it. Means you can't charge in gung-ho. Pick your time. Analyse the situation.
It also makes every confrontation different.
People don't like change. They want to use one tactic that worked in other FPS and then cry when it doesn't work out on Apex.

Yep. I love how different Apex is.
I'm tired of reading "recommended changes" that just want to turn it into a clone of another game. Why don't those people go play that game instead?
there's nothing wrong here. This is a common strategy my squad uses to get wins. Wait for two squads to engage in a firefight, then clean up the weak.
It's a Battle Royal game after all, perhaps a traditional multiplayer deathmatch is more for you. Maybe Destiny and CoD is more for your kind.
Good strategy, fun strategy, motivating strategy that ignites a fire in my butt with 'oh, you think you can just come and clean up? let's see about that'. I love it, I think it's only positive. You gain map awareness, you gain raw technical skill, you evolve as a player and you have the most fun since you're always fighting.
I had one situation where we were fighting a team and after cleaning up, at least another 3 parties showed up. We were able to slay 2 more teams in a long, drawn-out fight, but eventually got finished by the third or fourth team (i.e. 6th or 7th party). In that fight I have gone from ~440 light ammo to ~130 light ammo not counting what I picked up just using my carbine and a ton of heavy ammo using Wingman. I've wasted all 7+ grenades, more than 3 med kits + 3 large shield cells and only had time to pick up meds while fighting. Now, if this isn't fun, I don't know what is ladies and gentlemen. That was sick and nothing that I've experienced recently in a game. That's what keeps me coming back for more erry day.And if this is something that bothers you, there were excellent ideas mentioned earlier of how to avoid being 3rd partied. Plus it is quite easy to confuse the 2 opposing teams and just get them involved in fighting each other, essentially promoting your own team to a third party on the spot, after just being 3rd partied. Then you can run away or just wait and clean up. Unlimited options in this game.
But, that's the whole point of BR? It's not a deathmatch between two squads. It absolutely not only includes, but encourages taking advantage of two squads who are fighting each other. That's, like, one of the major pulls of the subgenre. Not everyone has to like it, of course, but it's insane to ask for it to be discouraged in any capacity.
