I don't mind having the solo mode, which feels more balanced than I anticipated. The problems I see with it are that it gets boring pretty fast, lacking many things that you can do in the team mode (that actually made Apex unique), the playerbase gets split and queue waiting times may increase largely later, extra development time needed to address the additional mode with its related issues may slow down the evolution of the game, the different approach needed for solo can affect the team play, as players who often switch between modes may communicate, ping or share less than before, going their own path or quitting early more often.
I just think it's silly to create a whole new mode when the current one is still suffering for many players. They only did this to appeal to a very small percentage of people crying about solo queuing with "terrible randoms" blah blah blah. It just doesn't make sense to introduce an entirely new set of problems. Why get behind on fixing stuff if you're already behind on fixing stuff?
I didn't think it would work but it does. It's kinda ok. Change of pace etc but it does not feel like Apex. It's just another FFA game, which you could play on any other game tbh.
Yes it works, and it is kind fun, but I find it a touch boring and winning isn't any kind of thrill. It's usually 4 or 5 people in a tiny ring waiting for the others to fight. This is how it was always going to be.
Not as exciting. Winning isn't as fulfilling but it's good to jump in for a few games only having to rely on yourself. It's just.... OK.
To anybody moaning about players not fighting/running away. Why would you risk fighting and attracting others to your location? Your best tactic is to wait for others to start then pick them off. This isn't cheap (insert derogatory comment here) it's common sense and logical.
And there's still utter clownshoes playing solo in squads, so it doesn't seem to have taken the "heros" completely out of squad playlist.
I'm not fussed either way, but it's just another FFA mode. Nothing special. Why the players who wanted this couldn't just get it from another game I don't know. There is nothing "Apex" about the solo mode really.
