Ask yourself if you enjoy the game

Stopped playing Apex Legends months ago.

But understand the nature it brings out in people. Why do team mates get upset and abusive over losing a BR game. When you're up against a whole lobby chances are you'll lose most games. Can't win most of them and you've probably had nasty comments from fellow team mates. Not sharing loot, playing solo away from other team mates, getting upset expecting you to be their personal revive hive. Chat/VoIP unpleasant remarks all round. Feels good to win I know, feels good to beat other real players. Down, quit x20 times over a period of an evening but at the end you feel the hours gone by and not satisfied. If you took away all the down, quit games you've probably only really played 3-4 real games in an evening.

Apex puts you in a constant state of anxiety and pressure "sweat" for extended period and mentally that's not healthy. You're angry and aggressive to the point even I found myself being toxic and even sabotage toxic team mates. That's not the way to play the game. I became a real bad person.

People bash PvE Coop because you're not playing against real players. But these kind of games builds health endorphins because you have a casual shared goal and death is more forgiving. You get that feel good endorphins because you're reviving, healing, supporting and generally helping people who are not toxic due to it's casual nature. Apex is competitive in any mode and any rank. It is the nature of BR games because death is unforgiving to the degree you'd rather just join another lobby in 10 secs instead of waiting 5 mins for a respawn, I get that as no one wants to wait around while others continue to have fun.

You know it's bad when people are smurfing because for the first few ranks, i.e. Your MMR is purposely kept low for easier lobbies. Then the EOMM basically means people are selecting no fill to suicide 5 times to lower their MMR. There is no SBMM. The monetisation is at highest level than ever. It is predatory. Yes, OK I get comments you want to support the game and developers by buying cosmetics because you like the skins as well. But at least you would expect some sort of return in content, fair match making, more casual modes PvE. But reality is that you're getting new maps with reused graphical assets.

It wasn't all bad playing with Apex Legends forum club members was actually really fun.

Take a step back and try some other games. It does feel good when you play with pleasant randoms towards a shared goal and casual experience. Maybe I am getting old and have less time. I used to play Quake 1 PvP over a 56K US Robotics dial up modem with pings of 300ms. But young or old choose your time wisely of what you really enjoy and how it makes you feel afterwards.

to further the experience, imagine cheating in a game in which most players will never, and I repeat NEVER, amount to ANYTHING. Nothing. 0. Nada.
It does not go on your professional resumes, except for the few who can really embrace gaming as a career, through being blessed with superior skills, or exceptionally undetectable cheats... either way. I guess my point here is, if you have played 2K games and are still meh... chances are good that you will improve marginally, but not to the point of being a "pro".
That does not have to discourage anyone, nevertheless the best won't be "the best" unless a slew of meh, and average players will be there to afford them the luxury to shine. Yet, these very so called "best" player shy not from calling other players "bots", "braindead" etc., effectively insulting the vast majority of players. What arrogance, isn't it?
I guess they set the example, and get supported for that behavior (through donations and subscriptions).

That said, there is a way to enjoy apex. With friends, or friendly team mates. If winning or losing won't matter that much then I believe there are quite a few decent people out there with whom playing can just be the type of experience you are looking for.

I never had any use for sports in general, professional or otherwise - but at least professional athletes USED to have some kind of code about what they would and would not say publically about competitors, teammates, coaches, owners, spouses, or life in general. That's certainly begun to break down, but in Esports it never even was. It's always been a crapfest where anyone can say almost anything they want and rarely is anyone held to account. I'll be watching to see how this whole nickmercs thing goes. I know it isn't exactly the same thing... but really it sort of is.

I like many of the comments in this thread. As for solo poke'em and run, when I find myself solo bc my teammates run off or quit, I turn to sniping from a distance. If the stars align well, i can rack up a lot of damage as the teams are focused on each other bc they are so close to each other and see each other as their primary threat.

My only input to this discussion is I just don't get why someone will join a team in trios just to run off ahead... so far ahead that it isn't worth trying to keep up,you find yourself just running and running, eventually into an ambush.

Once I didn't follow him, and eventually he came back to where I was bc I was in a late ring and we worked well together. But I just don't get why they run off ahead so far ahead. I can't imagine what is running through their minds.

@reconzeroIm not so sure about that, in many professional sports the athletes go wild against their rivals.

Example ? El Classico(Real Madrid vs Barca)
Atleast 50% of their matches end in fights
Sergio Ramos and Pepe were prime examples of highest tier footballplayers.

Not * on them, I love Sergio Ramos but damn that man uses every nasty foul trick etc to win. If it means to get rid of the enemy player than he was willing to do it.

@reconzero Wait are you trying to tell me athletes used to not trash talk each other? Is it because it didn't happen or because the media didn't understand the affect it had on ratings? I don't believe for a second they didnt.

@PeterN_UKthis is why I keep it very casual and never expect much from random groups. However you might want to try some of these games for a very positive PvP experience;

Black Desert is open world PvP however your character remains "immune" to attack until you manually choose to advance to level 50. You can remain in towns which are safe or stay put at level 49 forever if it suits you. The cost is $10 to buy the game, everything else you spend money on is cosmetics. About once a year they toss out free accounts but it only lasts about a week.

Guild Wars (the original trilogy game) last I checked in, Factions every weekend they have PvP teams of Kurzon verse Luxons for Fort Aspenwood and the Jade Sea. The entire trilogy is still not free to play, in my opinion makes it the better game. It should cost $30 for the trilogy or $10 for Factions (mostly cooperative pvp) alone. It is best to get the trilogy for the skill sets.

I haven't played the next group but I have heard good things about them;

Destiny 2 and Warframe are two titles that I am meaning to look into some time in the future. At present, I don't think my current PC could handle them.

Could be any number of reasons why people run to the hills away from their squad <Insert any below or more>
- They just want to pad their kill count. If they can get one kill and die. That's enough to re match make another lobby. +1 to their banner stat.
- They have watched too many YouTubers doing 1v3 and they want to be like them
- They treat their team mates like their personal revive hive then they'll probably abuse you if you don't die trying to grab their banner.
- They want to grab loot before you do along the path and leave you with scraps. But they're first to die as they're leading.
I've ranted about such all over this forum too much already. It literally is most games like that with randoms, no kidding. Things like this remind me not to play BR again.

Destiny 2 and Warframe. Huge grind both of them though. I've played them and PvP is casual quick short matches. The Apex PvP Team deathmatch was "Ok" just didn't like the open maps fish in a barrel design. Tighter urban environments, close combat mix would be nice.
I'm looking forward to Payday 3 releasing this year.
But I'm currently bouncing between 2 PvE coop match making online games I really love if, even if you're not into Warhammer.

I'm thinking back to my childhood. In the middle ages. It was a different time. Not necessarily a better one, just different. Public figures were a lot more circumspect with their opinions, and I don't remember any athletes trash talking their opponents, at least not on network television or in the newspapers. Funny, that. Those hardly even exist anymore.

@XubunnytwoIf your PC handles Apex, it should handle Destiny 2 and Warfarme. Just might need to turn down some of the optional effects.

Because the gift we got from 'social media' was the removal of public shame and now all the village idiots get to gather in one place and think they are smart instead of being properly isolated from others.
