@hayhor1. Just because you know that you need to get someone down doesn't always mean it's easy or even possible with well coordinated teams at that level.
2. Yes. Bad move. Imo.
3. Haven't seen any complaints about this except zero or random recoil on most weapons excluding the Mastiff.
4. To the vast majority this it true. If you were mediocre before playing against bad then over time those people catch up making your life harder but when you're playing things like competitive the overall quality of those players at the top has actually gone down over time with some of the best players leaving.
Before hand you were able to counter squad setups in most situations.
Last ring has become jam-packed with so many abilities that are blinding and unavoidable (excluding Horizon by sacrificing becoming an easy target) it comes down to tanking damage, higher dps and luck more than skill which is understandably frustrating when money is on the line.

@apostolateofDOOMFunny you bring up horizon. I actually blame her for the last ring issues. It was not until her sucky sucky ulti was introduced people started really complaining.
And my post wasnt a list of complaints. It was reasons why people think abilities have taken over which is mainly due to the skill gap closing.

@hayhorI know it's not.
I'm all for improving tacticals both delay during use and CD for some interesting plays (Loba would be fantastic and really fun without that animation and stun bs) but not on most ults.
Horizons ult on its own isn't that bad as it's just 2 mastiff shots but when your Gibby domes to protect against another Gibby ult, caustic throws his ult inside and horizons is holding you down taking away precious seconds to destroy it instead of fighting with nades going off left and right and anyone else spamming abilities it starts to become luck of the draw and a bit trashy in the final ring.- hayhor5 years agoHero@apostolateofDOOM I actually thing the final ring is a lot better now that it is larger and closes slowly. To me the tiny ring fast finish was way worse for luck. It was whoever was firing everything they had from their gun as fast as they can with a bunch of people at your feet. The ring change actually was an ability nerf......if people grow a pair and try to fight while it closes.
One change they could make to nerf it more would he to make that zone move instead of close, like warzone does.

@apostolateofDOOMI agree especially in ranked lobbies. I often see 6+ squads in ring 4-5. The final fight is often a luck of the draw.. Who ever has the best positioning and can save their ult/abilities typically wins.
I do agree with @hayhor on some of the points he's making. The adjustments to ring closure on the final ring helps. But when there are 3 Gibi ults going off it's nearly impossible to avoid unless you have a Wattson on your team.
There are definitely some legends who win fights simply because of their abilities and not because of skill. I think having that is okay to some degree, that's why they have abilities. But some legend abilities are definitely a bit over the top. Horizon comes to mind, it does not just pin you down, it makes ADS'ing nearly impossible. So not only are you stuck and an easy target, it's very very hard to fight back. If you don't carry a mastiff, shooting down the ult can and likely will get you killed. You'll be reloading as the enemy pushes you.. It's a death sentence.
If they nerf the abilities to much the game will become another PUBG/Warzone type game. I think abilities should be there, but their impacts should balance out especially when other legends use their abilities.- 5 years ago
@DarthValtrexAbout those 3 gibi ults in final ring... Imagine having crypto+your own gibby (or watson) + caustic. Crypto pops enemy bubbles, you gas your own bubble and enjoy the fireworks xD. Now with 2 crypto's in game... Well everyone dies xD. Or, I guess, unless you have both wattson and gibi and space out the defense before/after enemy crypto ult, but then everyone will run into your bubble and you'll have some mastiff mayhem.
Yeah, it's definitely way more fun with abilities than without them. Without them, you'd just have mastiff mayhem by default with no alternatives (unless game ends in very open area that pushed ppl out of cover earlier). Game is also way more nuanced and difficult with abilities than without. Game that's all about just aim is not difficult or interesting.
I hope they will add more heroes like crypto, that's more of a strong counter to a strategy rather than providing one of his own. Also maybe some defensive legends that have no offensive abilities (so like gibby but without bombardment).
- hayhor5 years agoHero@DarthValtrex The old final ring was more luck of the draw than it is now. No one seemed to care then. It is a battle royale with a ring that forces fights. There will always be luck. Even if the final zone moved gradually to a new zone instead of closing, the team that was closest to the new area would be the "lucky" ones.
- 5 years ago@hayhor well, some people call it luck but at the end of the day it's also part of the game and actually a skill. Calling map awareness, time awareness, situation awareness as luck is the same like telling someone who has good aim that they use aimbot.
I mean, of course there might be some luck involved like everything but if someone is always missing shots or ends up in bad position etc, you name it, it's not about "badluck" but skill.
if some mythical luck was the major determinant then no one would play it

@DarthValtrex I agree and much prefer ability shooters in general.
I think the latest ring change is a welcome improvement but i'm just not sure how likely a moving end ring would be implemented or even any better as Respawn have already said they want positioning to take priority over mechanical skill, which imo think is ridiculous for an fps with the movement Apex has.
As for Wattson, i think her ult in last ring isn't really that viable as it'll be focused so fast by the remaining teams but there are several easy buffs they could do that would change or at least improve on that.
@NolanGraysonnn Valorant has abilities too.. 😛 and no one, as far as i'm aware, is complaining about having abilities but being unable to counter or outplay your opponents in top ranked or competitive.
You do realise that it's the most skilled players in the game that are complaining about this ''luck'' being the determining factor that's removing the skill out of it and it's not really a problem in lower tiers being less congested with abilities on end rings.
This problem is much worse with Horizon because as @DarthValtrex said, you either focus on the ult (which might be several) while being shot at in that time or fire at enemies hoping your teams abilities and guns out dps them but likely die because you're a sitting target. This is without mentioning Gibby, Caustic and everyone else's ults and nades all going off in that enclosed space where mobility is very limited anyway.
I think the best and most simple solution is just remove ults in the final ring.
