Controversial Opinion: Only People Killed by Rats, are Angry about Rats

You may not like it, but:

Ratting is a valid way to win.

What people don't want to admit is that ratting often (not always) comes about because of a distinct disadvantage they've been placed in. This can happen because a team spawns a player short, the team had to abandon a teammate that died too deep in enemy area of operation, or any other number of things.

Because I've experienced these (and other) scenarios, I don't get mad at rats. Most often, I am upset that I was outplayed because I couldn't tell where the rat was coming from. When I have teammates who want to play conservative, I understand because they have to prioritize placement over combat because sometimes I have to prioritize placement over combat.

It's not to say that there aren't players who only rat. But especially in ranked, at some point they're gonna need to kill more often to continue to gain RP. And from my (anecdotal) experience, players who default to ratting are far outnumbered by players who have to rat by circumstance.

In a game where positioning is key to winning battles, one should not be upset that they were out-positioned, just as much as one should not be upset when they were out-gunned.

In the immortal words of Ice-T:

"Don't hate the player. Hate the game."

  • There is one thing what I would like to mention.

People mix up the ratting situation, because there are 2 type of rats

1 As you mentioned @NullEffective9 there is positional ratting, which is a different case, and yes it's normal, and as you mentioned, a teammate got killed and the other one got disconnected or what ever the reason for different cases of disadvantage. I do that, majority of players do that

2 There are the rat rats and me when I talk about rats, I am not talking about positional ratting, I talk about those players who literally rat in corners the whole game as a duo / trio at the most hidden places crouch walking out as they see / hear you and shoot you in the back and once they are done they crouch walk back to the same position, I have encountered a lot of this in these season, before, not really .

Regarding to the scanning legends, I use no-fill 95% of the time and I don't play a scanning legend, and a lot of times when I play in a team, no body uses a scanning legend.

    So positional ratting, all bueno

Rat ratting, just unskilled p**y players who came over from warzone, or just generally really bad at the game and this is the only way they can get a kill (no offense, or harshness towards anyone)

If their time is being spent ratting out an entire game to try and win a match at the end, I think they're having a far worse time than I would be with action throughout and getting killed to said rat.
