Has ranked become harder?

I've not played too much this season but when I have played in my longer stints it's mainly been ranked play because I do like to try and get to diamond at least once per season. Sadly, this will be my first season in a while where I don't think i'll make it. 

Personally, I think the standard of players has risen. I find it more challenging to even get out of gold now than I ever have done before and one of my regular teammates who's currently in plat has had an awful time bouncing between plat 3 and 2. 

I'm aware that it could just be down to personal skill level, where I'm not playing as much maybe I just find it more challenging or and i'm not sure if anyone can shed some light on this but because I'm not playing in my pre-made squad and I'm solo queuing more am I coming up against other pre-made squads even solo queuing? 

Overall, this isn't a moan I like a game to be competitive I was just wondering what other peoples thoughts have been on this. I used to breeze through gold as if it was silver and it just seems that little bit more challenging at the moment.

    @rockyboy1998 I've only played some ranked recently due to wanting to play KC but the whole mode is a mess. Preds and Masters or their smurfs everywhere in every level. I don't think it is an overall player quality. It is just players being in the wrong level due to the way the game works.

    @rockyboy1998 This has been a typical ranked season for me I think. This will hopefully be first season I make Diamond both splits. I got a full points win with Wattson because someone took Loba so it can’t be all that bad lol. I don’t think I’ve ran into obvious smurfs or anything like that. I would say I’m progressing pretty normally, some matches I lose full points, some matches I gain 20-50 rp, and usually can get one win or at least high rp gains per session (anywhere from 3-10 games). I want to say it was season 9 where I could make basically no progress, for some reason I could not get out of plat iv and was getting stomped every match. This season definitely doesn’t feel like that. And I can’t really speak much on SBMM but I guess I get an even mix of premades and solos? I don’t pay a ton of attention to my death recap so I’m not sure.

    @rockyboy1998hard to tell, I also am in gold however half of my deaths my teammate's badges are some basic season trash you get for grinding

    meanwhile the enemy that kills you or downs you got literal diamond badges, in gold....
