Has there been another change to matchmaking recently?

I came back a little bit after several months off and it is worse than ever.  For some reason, Apex still thinks I'm really good despite the results.  Those results are me and my random teammates getting obliterated repeatedly.  And yet, my squad still somehow gets put into top half lobbies based on the distribution chart at the beginning of the match.  Absolute dogwater.
