@hayhor 3D sound is basically a proprietary term from sony because they are both software- and hardware implementing sound direction with their new chip they offsets sound processing for that chip. Only thing devs need to do is generate the sound and its virtual soundscape and PS5’s chip will do the rest. That accompanied with the 3D software sound enabled on all headsets makes it sound better. This is on ps5.
The 3D audio in ps4 works with same principle minus the hardware coded side. So if sound isn’t properly mixed in, the headset will point out those flaws extra bad...
Other than that, 3D sound is nothing different from Virtual Surround sound with added angles like Dolby Atmos or DTS: X 3D. Since (most headphones ) headseats have only 2 Drivers, you can’t have real surround or 3D sound, hence why virtual surround/3D and all upcoming technologies are simulated to still give sounds a place if they’re below, above, behind etc.
