It's "monetization", not monetisation

I doubt any teens out there can actually convince their mothers to spend more than a week worth of groceries for the family for a couple of Apex skins.
Unless they are rich af, but then they would just buy it with their daily allowance.

I just looked at the prices of the Iron Crown stuff, yeah it's crazy. I would buy those legendary Iron Crown skins, but only for like $10 each at most. $18 or $20 or whatever it is, is too crazy. And I don't play loot crate lotto.
- 6 years ago@unferthington Granted a lot of those complaining are likely petulant youngsters who, as you rightly suggest, have no real appreciation for the cost and value of things.
However when you look more closely at the seemingly outraged masses, a large majority of them are simply asking for greater justifications as to why they're being charged more for content this time around that not only has zero effect on overall gameplay, but also has no apparent variation in value when compared to the purchasable content available prior to the Iron Crown event.
They'll either still buy it or they won't, but it'd be nice to know why they bumped up the prices.
I mean if a legendary skin is usually worth whatever cost, why is that price higher this time? Is it because it's time limited? Or is it because the publisher wants to encourage people get used to spending more?
People are just unclear as to the reasoning behind all of this.
- 6 years ago@GRiPSViGiL You share the same opinion as many other players. And I definitely agree to an extent.
If players want something they like, they have to buy it. Plain and simple.
I just wanted to discuss the questionable reasoning as to why they're a higher price this time around when no explanation has been given.
They're "special" legendary skins? If cosmetics have no effect on gameplay, then what makes their value different from the already available legendary skins?.. Ya know.
It'd just think be interesting to see if the developers can justify the prices beyond saying they're time limited.- GRiPSViGiL6 years agoSeasoned Ace@dtOddity92 I get that I was just being silly. I can see how it exposes some questionable tactics by Respawn but they are not necessary items to play the game.
I am more concerned about their shotty netcode and sub par server performance than any cosmetics, you know the things that actually matter to gameplay. I realize the art team that creates the cosmetics is different than people responsible for the performance of the game but yeah cosmetics/fluff are not something real gamers care about as far as I am concerned.- 6 years ago@GRiPSViGiL I didn't think you were being silly. You make an excellent point. Every single cosmetic item in-game is entirely unessential from a gameplay perspective. Though it makes you wonder why there is such a huge emphasis on obtaining them.
If the addition of the singles mode was to benefit overall gameplay longevity, why are the only rewards for participating in that kind of gameplay directly connected to the premium content?
But you are indeed right in that despite giving some many players what they've been asking for, there is a greater need to see the developers prioritise what's truly important to the majority of the player base. Server connectivity and netcode being a primary example.
