To answer your question: it might be. If what people are saying is true the average KD is less than one, then that says enough. Even if it's between 1-1.5 its really low imo...
The thing is, the game is build around higher than normal mobility but it rewards slower pace for some reason... Just look at ranked. It's like respawn doesnt know what direction they want to go... And it shows. But mostly you just get teammates that suck...
@pastaclown I concur, at every facet of the game ppl need to know what they're doing or you're already at a possible disadvantage... You're example of looting hits the spot like a shooter has to hit its mark but sadly in this game that rarely seems to happen...
But I don't necessarily think it's too hard for players but it's the inability or lack of wanting to learn it seems as most of the time you see a lvl 70+ making mistakes that they shouldn't... Like having the high ground but leaving it to attack the enemy below... Or rushing alone in a 3 man team...
I think most ppl who play shooters just want blitz games. I think this is why CoD is so popular. It doesnt require thinking. Just (fast) reflexes, some precision and alot of adrenaline to be average...

@Koochi-QI was a CoD guy so I can relate on what you’re saying. It definitely requires less thinking and typically encounters do boil down to reaction time and instincts, which is why I loved the fast pace nature of the Black ops series.
I consider myself a decent player especially since I’m essentially an exclusively solo player. KD sits at about a 2.60 this season and about a 2.35 overall more or less...With the game expanding more, it’s ruining my experience simply because team mates cant keep up because there’s just too much to pick up for the average gamer and the game requires a ton of learned skills and muscle memory that people won’t put the time into learning.
The more I’ve played Apex this season, the more it’s been a struggle for me. The game appears to have almost completely alienated the solo player but I’ve come to the conclusion that SBMM isn’t the problem. I think it’s the easy excuse to make because no one wants to accept the reality that this isn’t the easiest game to pick up and play. There are so many underrated skills in this game that go beyond aiming. Like you mentioned with “Looting”. It amazes me how slow people loot. It’s by far one of the most important skills in the game. Then other decisions like having 3 or 4 squads left and taking a level 1 evo shield at that point over a purple or hell even a blue regular shield. Things like that have nothing to do with SBMM.
Like I said, I use to be one of those people crying about SBMM. But the bigger issue is that Apex Legends isn’t built for the average gamer. It’s a game that is extremely unforgiving for people that don’t put the time in to it... - hayhor5 years agoHero@Koochi-Q Watch the most recent NA summer tourney. It seems the top pro teams makeup has changed due to recent buffs to bloodhound and rev and nerf to wattson. It was a much more aggressive tourney.
I think the average kd on here varies greatly. I'm not that aggressive unless I find I have good teammates. This leads to only pushing when it makes sense. And it means my best kd ever in a season was around .95. But I win at around a 10% clip and still love to win more than any other thing. - 5 years ago
Again with this K/D ratio rant...
So I'm automatically a crap player becaus when I hit the skill wall I should stop playing and smurf, or farm non ranked matches so not to lose precious K/D ratio?
So pointless to play a game where you can stomp on more then half the lobby, it is always better to try improve against better players even if that trash your ratio.
7 out of 10 diamond solo games for me I will have uncoordinated members who die in the first engagement and usually happens by people getting one clipped instantly so it is extremely hard to salvage that situation. I'm not good enough to 1v3 on that level or carry bad members so I will start losing more then I gain.
No I'm not saying Diamond is a good player rank or anything like that, I'm an extremely basic player and closing in on 40 so my game sense is poorer then most kids. But I solo to Diamond no problem and there is where my ratio starts taking a serious beating.
I think statistics and badges etc should show on which level/game mode you achieved it to keep people from obsessing, would maybe solve a bit of the badge selling business aswell becaus it is far more impressive with a 20 bomb on master rank then on bronze.
I also advocate deranking between ranks other then just the levels to force people to try their best instead of sleeping on IV.
- DarthValtrex5 years agoHero (Retired)@Thorleifs I don’t think you should stop playing. You will hit walls, but if you continue to play and work for improvement you will eventually make it over those walls.
My KD was stuck at .90 for a while. Last season things started clicking for me, my KD is in the 1.2 range now. I occasionally have rounds in which I just destroy everything. That bounces me into top tier lobbies. When I was first bounced into those lobbies I would get destroyed. Now I have some success in those lobbies.
When I first broke 2k damage it was awesome, but I did not have another 2k for a while. I started posting 2k more frequently.. next thing I know I had a 3k match. Now the 3k are becoming more common.
The key is learning to use the OP weapons that are difficult to use and movement. You also need to learn when to disengage fights.- 5 years ago
I don't know, the game has a very high skill gap compared to some of the other shooters but the sbmm really makes it tedious if you are in that average to good category. For example I rated myself as quite a good player on console, I was never able to achieve the 20kill badge but the game assumed I was good enough to play in lobbies filled with them every game. So though frustrating I took it a bit as a compliment. However I have recently switched to PC and decided after 30 years of only playing games with a controller I would switch to Mouse and Key. Of course this instantly made me garbage for a bit but as soon as I started to see any success after less than 2 weeks into it the game has started throwing me into crazy lobbies already. I started out the first few days with only a .3 k/d because I literally had to think about every action I performed on the keyboard. I quickly improved but still my K/D has only gotten up to a 1.06 and today everyone that has killed me has been a total sweat with crazy badges. I have no idea how the SBMM thinks I should be competing with that right now. I have good game sense and my movement has gotten pretty good quickly spending hours practicing it in the firing range but as soon as I need to start popping heals while manipulating doors and canceling into tacticals or what not everything goes haywire lol. I would say right now with my development I am an average to slightly above average player on mouse and Key but I am battling hardcore players every match. IDK, maybe everyone playing this game now is a hardcore player at this point.
