I am against leaver penalty. Imagine being forced to play at all costs with players who are sabotaging, toxic, or else you get punished in pubs.
IMO a leaver penalty in pubs is more a need for seeing the team sinking along than an attempt to curb a problematic situation.
Sure there are leavers. But it is hardly every match.
I meet much more often, virtually always, team mates as you describe, that IMO try to grief by outlooting their team mates, by dropping along with 5 or more other teams, and by taking very bad fights, than leavers. So basically those complaining about leavers are leavers themselves?
@Vdstrk My understanding is that there is a behind the scenes leaver penalty in pubs. So it is like a downward cycle if you leave you will just get put on worse teams. I'm not sure what the answer is. It used to not be an issue because 9/10 teams were good. Now it is like 6/10. Since I never leave because of this, I have done stuff like jump off the map then had my sqd just carry my banner for 10 minutes. After I tell them to not pick up my banner and to not rez me. Then they of course die to the first team they encounter.

LOL
It is entirely possible tha they have a "shadow" penalty. I do not leave as much anymore. It is what it is. I hate dropping with 5 other teams, and be without guns.... but the chances are that the match will be very short anyways. I used to insta-quit the second they were headed to, say, estates along 10 other teams.... Everything else was ok.... drop in the middle of nowhere, it is fine... just not more than 2 other teams please.
Then again... who does drop along with many other teams? the level 10 who gets some bad advice on the internet... and who will probably get toasted so many times that will leave the game because, "oh apex just s@#$s.."
Or the apex pred who cannot care less one way or the other because it is just warm up. @Vdstrk Flashback to last night playing with my friend and his friend who wanted to only jump fragment in ranked. So basically I was getting 1 kill and we were eliminated within 3 minutes for about 10 matches. It was still better than playing with randoms.
@B0n3SawMcSizzla wrote:@Vdstrk @shaunlake1344 I was getting bad random teams with my 500 lvl account and now its not even funny with my lvl 30 acct. Apex is kinda like the honor system that your gonna play together to win. Towards the end of season 8 every other random would not break off and follow me to grab loot, even if there were no enemies nearby, and there's a whole other building next door. I never disconnect. If I find myself in a squad like this I will just push us into a fight and take big risks.
Yeah I'm not proud of it, it's rage! As a solo player I hate the respawns, I know it's great for people playing with their buddies so I'm not saying it should go but for me it sucks. Once I've been thirsted I just want to start again, waiting sucks and getting respawned sucks unless I'm next to my death box. I don't like respawning my teammates much either, it generally involves a big risk and you don't know if they're about to quit. Also pinging incessantly drives me crazy, if someone keeps pinging when they're knocked or boxed I won't try to save them. Once the game is going I'm always happy to try and win the match alone.
But if I get a good teammate I won't do any of this, and when I say good teammate I don't mean skill level, I mean someone who stays together, doesn't steal loot and does their best in a fight. Do this and I will go out of my way to save them and I'll give them every chance to save me. Unfortunately most of my teammates don't act like this. Any sign of toxicity and I'm out of there.
- @aisthebestletter We don't play pubs for the simple fact that it is 99% guaranteed the third will leave. Hell, even after they implemented the leaver penalty in Arenas, it actually feels like it made it worse for me. People just do not care.
- @Vdstrk i'm with you on the leaver penalty stance. Half the time people don't care anyways, that is what I am seeing with Arenas currently.
A better solution, in my opinion, would be to take note in the matchmaking with people who leave and group them all with other leavers. So if you have a 0% rate you will be more likely to be grouped with others who don't leave. - Vdstrk5 years agoSeasoned Ace
@illnastyone
If they really wanna make it that people should not leave, they should take the leaving option away entirely. Only way to leave a match, and get a rank demotion, would be to turn your system off for like 20 minutes or so.... the entire duration of the match, else, you get back in the same match you left.
But..... that would make it a nightmare to play IMO..... Especially pubs.
I have no objection on a leaver penalty in Ranked. There it is fair game. But pubs? No way.
People play pubs for various reason. Some do it to warm up, others because they have little kids, and need a diaper change so they play pubs because they can leave without feeling too guilty about it, etc...Me. I play pubs because I literally S@#K at the game 🙂 LOL
- @Vdstrk this might sound odd because it is the opposite for any other game. But I play ranked because pubs is a sweat fest and ranked is actually fun and easy. I usually stop once I hit gold, but if you wait a few weeks and start ranked it is super casual non sweat from my experience.
Here’s a thought…..The matchmaking system rewards players who do not leave with other like minded players. Almost like a reputation rating like in Gran Turismo.
