Mechanical Skill
I’m still a little sour that Respawn just admitted that they don’t value a player’s mechanical skill as a metric for winning gunfights and games. I’m also shocked that more people aren’t bother...
I actually feel the same way as McCord to a certain extent.
I'll praise good early rotations and positioning as a team, over a spam crouching paddle console solo player bum rushing every newb in the lobby.
There needs to be a balance, and the lower TTK was what I believe to be an implementation to try and move into that direction, which is team play.
I'm not saying this is no longer possible since they reverted, but you'll now see the same solo Rambos going off to try and mechanically outplay entire squads by themselves because, well, the risk factor is no longer as crucial having reverted the TTK.
Coming up against a Gibby or Caustic with red evo is once again an issue if you're not evolving your shields fast enough.
I think a vast majority don't realize they're only trying to better the overall flow of the game with these changes, and reward team play.
Quick observation from yesterday's games were that, above average players did not stick with me as a duo regardless of my stats being "ok", but they did with a lower TTK knowing very well they couldn't push à la Rambo with that security net of a higher TTK.
@Gabrielmojo26You explained it there dude with lower ttk people are more likely to hug eachother/camp as a solo player that gets 1 v 3 most of the time i like being able to evade not just get sprayed up on back to menu and repeat the fights go on longer making it more entertaining
@DaleWWilson95You're talking as tho players were hugging each other in a corner building just waiting the entire game for someone to walk by, in all honesty, I have played a lot since S6 dropped and not once did I observe this kinda behavior, not once!
In reality, I just think a lot of players were angry because they couldn't carelessly wonder on the map anymore, and getting shot faster, to the detriment of being more careful, was pee-pee-ing a lot of the higher skilled players, cause honestly, new players didn't even notice this.
That being said, many times having a blue EVO, getting shot in the back, I still had enough time to dodge out, regroup, heal, and push.
Players like to exaggerate only to reinforce the changes, whether it be lower TTK, or higher TTK.
@Gabrielmojo26
I hear you. I disagree but I respect your opinion.
For the record, I didn’t HATE the lower TTK. It wasn’t game breaking for me. It lowered my ability to use defense (strafing + movement) but it wasn’t the end of the world.
I think forced SBMM is a much bigger problem— because I don’t believe players should be winning at similar rates. I believe that players with high mechanical skills should be performing better (overall) than lower skilled players. Apex gets particularly unforgiving in these high tier lobbies— I’m convinced the game doesn’t play well (isn’t enjoyable) at these levels but that’s subjective.
@Gabrielmojo26the lower TTK made me even more of a rambo then I already was. I don't know that I was bad about being a rambo, but I definitely would have my moments. If I see an enemy squad fighting I'll ping it and I'm pushing it. The lower TTK made it much easier for me to 1vs2 or 1vs3 people because with certain guns I could typically drop 2 enemies in 1 magazine if my aim was spot on. If I could ambush the enemy the lower TTK made it even easier for me to 1vs3 or 1vs2 enemies. Lower TTK meant lower investment of ammo/energy to drop an enemy. I was having quite a few engagements in 2vs1 or 3vs1 situations in which my armor never got broke with the lower TTK.
I don't really notice a huge difference from either TTK in terms of reducing rambos. You both ultimately have the same life and similar DPS from weapons. The lower TTK did make ambushing/surprising enemies much easier as you could eliminate them before they could respond at all.
But even still movement is key to this game and winning gun fights. I'm not a big spam crouch player, I jump and strafe more. No matter what they do I'm always going to try and use legend movement to make the enemy miss shots. I'm also going to try and use my ability to jump around buildings to my advantage.
