Do the new consoles give players an advantage? I have noticed a change in the last few days, I have been getting smashed way more than normal. I know the frames are more consistent for them at 60 and mine seem to dip into the 40s during intense fights. I am on the old S. Anyone else notice anything?

A current gen console player can have advantage over a next gen console player with good PC monitor that has lower response and higher pixel density instead of a TV or use better headset with amplifier to focus high end frequencies for footsteps. Current gen still runs Apex at 45-60FPS average but with lower resolution scaling for sure.I don't think they'll make a "next gen" console standalone version of Apex. More like "patch" upgrades for resolution 4K and FPS unlock to 60-120Hz then call it "Next Gen Edition". But even at 1080P resolution the draw distance pixellation is still good enough to see and hit distance targets when your face is 20cm from monitor anyway. At best they'll bring resolution and FPS to PC level, so not ground breaking.Apex is more CPU dependent and not a graphical intensive game at all. Don't think they're going to add special effects to annoy people in a competitive game i.e. RTX or more particle effects. PC people already edit their graphics settings low to miniimise visual distractions already.They haven't even announced any "next gen" console patches for 4K and above 60FPS for Apex. It will just play as backwards compatible game as usual on new consoles.I would advise anyone to not sell their previous console when they receive next gen one. Just because an older gen game is "backwards compatible" there are still possibility of game breaking bugs that prevent game progression as it won't be perfect emulation, so better to keep as backup for your library of games.This is more specially the case for PS rather than Xbox.Also faster SSD will load maps faster, but you still have to wait for last player to load map to start at same time. So no real storage speed advantage here. It might be good for say ranked mode where you get disconnected and want to reconnect to existing lobby session though.

@PeterN_UK I would assume so as with Xbox you get smart delivery so your save file goes through the washer and gets spruced-up graphics & performance. With most games it’s at no additional cost... some games tho... On my One S I would say my average FPS is mid 40s-low 50s. Lowest drops at mid 30s. I also get near-constant micro-stutters every 10-15 seconds with the “player prediction” error symbol, occasionally half-second freezes during gunfights, and all that combined, along with the horrible resolution makes for a frustrating experience on current gen.so I would imagine that people like me are at a disadvantage compared to the next gen consoles with resolution at or above 1080p and basically constant 60fps.

@BaldWraithSimp It is... xD. Console gamers tend to want the same experience. We shell basically the same amount on the console so we want an even playing field. Except for the mid-gen console buyers. We don’t really care about them.This is also the reason why I bet with @hayhor that there will not be a substantial performance boost on current gen as opposed to prev gen. Devs know that console players want basically the same experience xD. So unless they start going the pc route now all of a sudden, it’ll stay the same.I really don’t care about all that tho cause even with same console one can have a different experience than the other. An og Xbox One hooked up to an oldschool 1080p television playing on normal xbox controller with crappy-moderate internet connection vs Xbox One X with latest 4K television (obviously with game mode) hooked up to Xbox Elite controller series 2 with added soundcard hooked up to fibre optic... who’ll win if they are evenly skilled... except in apex where the lesser internet has an advantage xD.@PeterN_UK entirely true. Well said.@maximas1985 You would think that but I think not. Just as I said before, ‘even playing field’. Who knows, I might get proven wrong but they’ve done it this way for most mp game since the beginning so I don’t think they’ll start soon. It would def be doable to get apex to run at 60-120 on next gen... either at 1080p, 1440 or 4K even without VRR or G-sync (LG TVs) but for now I don’t think they’ll do it xD.

@Koochi-Qordered the PS5 specifically for Apex cuz I suspect that FPS drop is causing a lot of issues on close encounter so I hope this thing will be performing better.also noticed the game get slower, animation get slow motion in the lobby but it goes back to normal after restart

I came from Xbox One X so framerate was 80% at 59 and occasionally did the 57-59 tweaking but other than that the game performs the same. So far no better adjustments. Only thing with Series X is that even during intense moments it stays at 59. Never seen it dip once.

Dunno bout Xbox One and Xbox One S but they should also be up there at 50-60 I believe... albeit less consistently.

@Koochi-Q So in short the difference should only be noticed between a vanilla model of the previous gen compared to the now current gen yes?
Sounds about accurate to me bud. I'm playing on a bog standard ps4 and I see my FPS fluctuate between 29-58 on the regular.
I guess in this scenario the argument could be made that there is an advantage of sorts....but the heavy fluctuations do dampen it somewhat.
@maximas1986 I think you may also be correct, the FPS drops i mentioned above generally reach the lower end of the spectrum during CQC.

@maximas1986 Lolz you rich bird XD. Buying a 500 bucks console to play a 0 bucks game XD.

But yea, it’s like most other games, when multiple assets are on screen, more cpu is needed so older machines struggle BUT you won’t really notice it on beefier machines. Coming from PS4 pro or Xbox One X you wont notice a thing.

@MandatoryIDtag that is correct, unless you aren’t heavily focussed on lagging/skipping frames.

Yea, there’s a lil bit of advantage, but if you hook up an SSD to your ps4 or xbox one and play the game from that vs someone who has it on HDD there’ll also be an advantage xD.

@Koochi-Q am not rich but anyway it's a most, also my son been nagging and asking for a console so once I get my hands on it I will send the ps4 to him,
"Coming from PS4 pro or Xbox One X you won't notice a thing" am currently using the first-gen PS4 ( I think ), it's the COD black ops edition so am not sure which gen it's considered.

@maximas1986Yea thats first gen, just like mandatory’s... you’ll notice the difference. Less frame skippy... but Apex does a good job covering such stuff up.

Just look at when game is running slomo... it still says 59fps and 30 ping xD. I honestly don’t know if I ever played Apex on non-Xbox One X... if I have, I can’t remember the difference between that and my previous X...
Gifting your son previous console definitely shows richness or else you’d sell it... to your son XD! I need to sell my ps4 but too lazy to find a buyer...

@aisthebestletter Must be a console thing to complain about hardware differences I guess. I play 60hz on PC, but don't really care if someone has 120hz or whatever. At the end of the day, it's me and my aim.

@PeterN_UK nice review mate, but wouldn't the next-gen console take advantage of VRR with compatible tv to raise that FPS to 120?
so the console and the TV will be working together to keep it on steady FPS all the time
