Placeholder Weapons

What weapons will you never finish a game with? Like as soon as you find something better/you want, it's gone?

Also what weapons if you find on drop will you keep the entire game?

I have been looking at my stats more and keeping track of what weapons work and don't for me (as in, I can hit at least 50% of my shots on moving targets).

    Works:

    • G-7 (I am pretty sure this is one of my top 2 for kills)
    • Hemlock (and pretty sure this is other top 2 for kills)
    • P2020
    • Mozam.
    • Wingman (but only with default irons)
    • The bow, because bringing a bow to a gun fight makes perfect sense...
    • Sentinel (but ONLY with Iron sights, figure that out)
    • R-301 set to Semi-auto
    • Flatline set to Semi-auto
    • Prowler
    • Melee
    • Grenades

    Does not work:

    • Literally anything that is auto-fire only (so I avoid LMGs, even when playing Rampart now).
    • Flatline set to auto-fire
    • R-301 set to auto-fire
    • Shotguns that are not the Mozam.
    • Wingman with any other sights.
    • Longbow
    • Charge Rifle
    • Most any energy weapon
    • The Knife during Gun Run (which I only got to once)
    • Tacticals that are supposed to do damage.

That odd ability to get hits with, and even kills to mid game, with a P2020 means if I find it on drop I'll keep it. With the laser sight now it's not bad for hipfire. It's not a good primary, but it's very quick to swap to if you have run out the clip on the other gun, or were sniping and suddenly discover closer enemies. If I can get a G-7 and P2020 setup early game, I will run that to the end (one ammo type helps) but my fav combo is G-7 and Hemlock.

@dSKyNafinchin Oh, forgot about Hemlock. I can run that, but then I need an auto gun as the secondary... always need one auto gun. So Hemlock I won't pair with shotguns or a Prowler. Would be totally s2-s3 nostalgia if I were to run a Hemlock/Devo, so that'd work.

No one is bad at the charge rifle. There is no easier weapon in the game. The secret (tell no one else) is to use a mid-range scope, not a sniper scope.

The hemlock is for me the most difficult-to-use weapon in all of Apex. Maybe it's because it supposedly has "range" so I keep trying to use it with a big scope the way I would use a tripletake. And the first bullet hits the target, the second is several meters above the target, and the rest of them literally wrap around the underside of the map. With that kind of recoil I'm surprised I don't end up shooting myself in the back.

The scout is also a mystery to me, and you would think, due to my fascination with mid-range guns, that I'd be aces with it. But I'm not. I never even try to pick one up anymore.

I'm also surprised to hear people list melee or grenades as favored tools. I relegated melee to some button on my controller that I can't even find so that I wouldn't keep hitting it accidentally when trying to do other things. I did that a lot in the first four or five seasons until someone told me you could map the controller. And grenades I refuse to use on principle because they're so counter-intuitive (with all the menuing and arming and putting down your gun that you have to do) and so nooby with a trajectory tell so a monkey could place it. Very un-Halo-like. Recon disapproves.

But these are all more reasons why we make good squadmates - never fighting over the same toys.

@reconzero Trick to the Hemlock is a 2x scope (I prefer the Bruiser).

If you can make out the body part you are aiming at separate from the rest of the character at that zoom, all 3 bullets will be on target if you just pull the zero down a touch. Too much zoom, and yeah, it's gonna be off.

Lot of folks don't realize that, like real life guns, most guns have an "ideal" scope in this game, and to me it seems like Hemlock + Brusier = Chef's Kiss.

And the real funny part is for some guns ideal ranges, the best sights ARE the original irons.

@CCbathwater I'm pretty much the same. I love some of the semi-auto and burst weapons, but I always have to carry 1 automatic. Only exception, was back when the Prowler could switch, so then it didn't matter what else I ran

@Kyldenar I disagree the hemlock ideal sight is a 2x. For me it's a 3x. It's all in recoil control with understanding your zoom level. Hemlock is down and left. Less so when in 2x vs 3x.
