Okay, if this gets obliterated by a roll to the next page I'm totally posting it again, because I want the OP to put the blame where it belongs.
It is NOT the team, it is NOT your playing skill.
It is totally and absolutely Respawn's atrocious SCORING system.
Platinum could possibly be the most stupid result of Respawn's failure to rank progress, namely because they stole a bad scoring system without understanding it. I can take two Platinum IVs, both above average players, and yet one is almost Diamond skill level, and the other is barely out of Gold.
Because you can get top 5 and if you have no kills, you lose rank, even though you were better than 15 other teams in the game. So you want kills to count, right? I can still get kills and be on the team that defeats 11 other teams and lose ranks.
That...is...just...the dumbest.
If you have any integrity to your scoring system (which this doesn't but let's pretend), when you defeat more than half the people of your same skill rating, you should get a positive score, even if it is something like a lousy +1. Simply put, you beat the majority of the players in your game, you should get some sort of positive score. You can argue how much of that should come from kills, and how much from placing, but that's not the point. If, at the end of the day, once it is decided how you should score, then the end result should be if you beat half the other player teams, you should end up with a positive rank. And definitely if you beat 2/3 or 3/4 of the enemy teams, you should go up in rank.
Check out how Platinum rank and above are scored, you only advance if you get top 4, but even your score is so minimal if you place 4th or 3rd, even with a few kills, you really need to come in 1st or 2nd to have your score be worth it. Which means, since again you are playing people of roughly your own skill, supposedly, when you roll into your next few games and 'only' place 10th-6th, you're losing. In fact, playing people of your own skill level, winning in platinum is always wiped out by the number of losses you will have in the next 3-4 games.
The only people who advance in Platinum are Diamond players. Which means by the time you are actually Platinum III, you really belong in Diamond IV, with that kind of win ratio. Which means somehow your head has to be full of enough rocks to figure out how to be a Diamond level player by playing straight Platinum IV ad nauseum.
It is possibly the dumbest scoring system I have ever seen since Overwatch. But, you know, FORTNITE uses this kind of system so if they are doing it, then Respawn needs to totally copycat it, absolutely. :P
What? Does the truth hurt?
- @KelRiever The scoring system was made worse this season. But that isn't the reason some people cannot make it out of plat 4. You can still play the way things were previously. If someone isn't good enough they simply aren't.
you can solo rank out of plat 4, make it count when you get decent team mates and not suicide along with the bad ones
You can make it out, as in…it is possible.
Is it worth the effort? Nope.
et all,
I have to fully agree with @KelRiever post about the ranking system for the most part.
If you survive longer than 50% of the Lobby, it does not mean you defeated them, but you did per see outsmart them by out-surviving them and maybe getting a kill or two etc along the way or not. Either way that in and of itself should be rewarded with a positive progress in RP. My suggestion would once a player is in the top 50% of a game the RP entry cost should be nullified/canceled out.
I think that this would also alleviate some of the hot dropping need for KP and help with team play cohesiveness.
Respawn should find a way for the RP to prioritize placement but at the same time stop the whole lobby from just ratting. A balance between placement and kills but the recent RP change doubled down on prioritizing kills where placement doesn’t matter at all if you don't have kills.
I agree "Respawn should find a way for the RP to prioritize placement but at the same stop the whole lobby from just ratting"
Increase ring speed or decrease ring change timer would force players to move more.
As I have said in the past incentivizing Revives and Respawns by giving some sort of RP or Team RP for them would at least help out with team play. Caps would need to be put into place so as to avoid abuse. Would also help out Cryptos pick rate.
THIS!
I fully agree, if you survive 50% of the loby you should be at 0.
But still no quick gain like today if youre not actually performing well. In Plat gettin 1-10 points is like standing still anyhow but at any rate you dont get punished that freeking hard because of a suisidal squadmate.
@dioangelIt's hard but it's definitely possible. I've been able to solo Q to diamond in season 8, 9, and 11. In this case the simplest way I can put is like this.
this will happen often but if you have scenarios where you often get hardstuck gold/plat duos, hard stuck plat 4's, randoms who pretty much only play rank as their "pubs", and people who have decent gun skills but make some of the most dumbest decisions. The goal here is to try and take the leader role. often times, if you have good stats with your legends such high kills, a 4k/20 bomb, triple triple, or a diamond badge from a previous season to name a few, they'll probably be willing to play off you since it shows your competent and capable, It's not 100% needed but it definitely helps alot. If you do get to lead, go for smart fights, good positioning, and mobility/movement legends that can get you in and out easily if needed. You can definitely do it with non movement legends if your comfortable enough but it's going to be a bit harder.
If they're the type that can't keep up, choose to do their own thing, too scared to fight with an advantage, or male awful decisions, them play with them till things really go south and then just play your life and rat. The ratting part when you get bad randoms or people who make bad choices sucks but it can allow you to just either lose little or gain a little more.
If you get plat 3's to plat 1's than those are the games you need to take advantage of. Most of these players tend to know what they're doing, are less likely to be bad or throw games, and/or are former diamond and masters/preds. Try to play off of them or try communicating with them as much as you can if possible.
Rank is tough with how unpredictable plat lobbies are but it's certainly possible.
