POI Selector while picking Legends (Apex Legends)

Hi,

Considering how Season 28 started and after seeing the update, I could hardly wait to launch my first game and try ranked. However, I was quickly disappointed. I really don’t like the old dropship system that feels like pubs. By the second zone, there were fewer than 10 squads left and it felt like I was playing slightly harder pubs. It didn’t feel fun or original at all.

I think the dropship system with a selected POI was on the right track, it just needed some improvements to prevent landing at the same spot game after game. For example, the map could be divided into four quadrants, each with a 25% landing chance, to reduce repetition - especially when it comes to no name locations that don’t have as much loot as other POIs. I mean, it was fine to land in those areas, but not two or three times in a row.

Another idea could be a POI selector during the legend pick phase, where players could see in percentages how many squads selected each area of the map. That way, we would better understand our actual chances of landing exactly where we want.

Sometimes it felt like luck played too big of a role from one game to another, depending on the landing spot. The previous system gave enough time to loot and enough time to prepare for a proper 3v3 fight or to deal with a potential third party.

What do you think?

    Thank you Ruan!

I think the vast majority are unhappy because the ranked mode with preselected POIs gave players a sense of equality for the first time and gave them the opportunity to play as a team. We all watch professional players and the way they play ALGS, and that kind of ranked finally gave us the chance to experience what it’s like to play zone 4 and 5 while 10–15 squads are still present. Very fun and very intense!

  • I want to start this by reminding you that you said, "What do you think?"

My personal opinion is that preset drops are a crutch for players who want their risk doled out to them in small portions because they are unwilling or unable to manage risk for themselves. "What am I supposed to do if my jump master wants to go to streamer building? How do I manage that?" You might well ask. First thing: get a better jump master. Everything I hear about how preset drops are "more competitive" and make for "better teamwork" seems to be coming from the exact same player: a guy who ONLY solo queues into ranked but still demands from Respawn that they provide him with RANDOM TEAMMATES who have the exact same match goals and play style that he does. Which is completely unrealistic. If you want to solo queue ranked AND get to master then you forfeit the right to complain about the qualities of your squad mates. By "get a better jump master" I mean "stop soloing and start stacking." Then you're in a better position to deal with whatever randomness the game gives you, and you're a lot less likely to find yourself in some early-match dumpster fire with five other squads all fighting over the same seven bins. If players would take more control of their own experience then they wouldn't need Respawn to bounce them on their knee and wipe away their tears. Harsh but true.

I think the vocal minority are unhappy because the game felt subjectively easier with preset drops - because it forced everyone to adopt a single unified play style. And we all know how happy people are when one size fits all, when they don't have to do any hard thinking for themselves, and when choices are made for them by someone else. Oh, wait. That's sheep I'm thinking of.

    Recon... Recon... Recon....

Once again, why do you continue to troll players about Ranked? Your side won and you're just rubbing it in. For what? Go play Bot Royale. Have fun!

For some reason you enjoy being wrong. Let's all take your advice, and stop playing Ranked. That's essentially what you're advising us to do.

Basically, find a stack or don't play is your solution. Be careful what you ask for because I'll never play Ranked again until it's ALGS based.

Other players on Reddit suggest that players should separate from their teammates if they hot drop. Land safe and craft banners. Rinse, wash, repeat. If this is the type of Ranked system the devs and community think is best then you all are delusional.

Thanks for pushing comp players away. It's crazy how much we're being hated and devs are siding with the trolls. This is ludicrous.

P.S. - To all the comp players, we lost. It's time to move on. At this point, don't help EA/Respawn by populating lobbies.

IF IT'S FORGET US THEN IT'S FORGET THEM. BOYCOTT RANKED. DON'T PLAY IT SINCE WE'RE SOLO QUEUING. IT'S OUR FAULT, NOT THE DEVS.

Trolling would be if I stuck my tongue out and said something like, "Suck it, sweats."

And I cannot say sincerely enough that that is not why I'm giving push back here. I'm giving push back, not to change minds, but to make sure people understand that there is more than one side to this, and that the opposition is not reactionary, poorly though out, or spiteful. Believe it or not, while I may not have thought fixed drops were a good idea, I'm not gleeful that they're gone. Plenty of people see them in ALGS and if that makes them feel that's how competitive play should work, then more power to them. And they should be here making their point. And they should expect push back from people who disagree. Why else do these forums exist?

    Now that's the spirit.

And for the record, I played quite a few rounds of ranked today. It was excruciating.

I don’t know if you’ve just started playing Apex, but you’re asking why we don’t just ask where to land or find a better jumpmaster? Hello? The thing is, it’s easy to get used to something better. We all know we played 26 seasons the way we did, and ranked “worked.” In Season 27, that preselected POI happened, which at first didn’t really make sense and we didn’t have the freedom to choose where we wanted to land (I’m talking about ranked), but over time we got used to it. And after that, like anyone who does anything, we started looking for flaws.

And the only flaw, in my opinion, was that we sometimes landed multiple times in a row in the same place, 80% of our games landing on the same side, etc. And even then, you still had the opportunity to land and immediately push a squad that was right next to you — and guess what? Not everyone did that, because they adopted a playstyle where they take and defend their position and, by MUTUAL agreement, scan ring, scan survey, and choose the right route into the next ring or a potential fight, third party, and so on. It’s always easy to get used to something better, which is why, like most people, I think the preselected POI was a much, much better option because it finally gave a sense of teamwork in the game and an opportunity for a normal climb, without ratting and hiding in a corner.

We can’t compare ourselves to pro players and their playstyle because they are literally PREDATORS at this game. Wherever you place them, they will get the best out of it, and the vast majority of players aren’t capable of doing that, just like you and just like me. Yes, in past seasons I ended up in the same lobby as Mande, Effect, and other European players, and the only plus I can take from that is saying I was in the same lobby as them. They’re so many steps above me that I couldn’t reach them even by elevator. And that’s completely objective and realistic.

And the comment that we’re sheep, that someone else is thinking for me and the others who adopted the preselected POI, or that I don’t do anything the whole game and just follow, huh, that’s really funny. Apex itself said this is a game where one depends on another and that there will never be a competitive solo mode, because everyone has their own qualities that, when combined in the game, give you the team you get. Someone tracks the map, someone is much better at 1v1s, someone is a leader, etc. Whatever your opinion is, it’s very shallow, and you’re the only one on all the other posts who’s being completely unrealistic.
