Rant on why I'm beginning to hate this game

I don't know if I'm in the same boat as anybody else in here but I was watching some clips from about a year ago and things were pretty different. I don't know if I'm getting worse or others are getting better or if it's something else entirely but it's getting pretty insane. It's not really a fun time anymore. It's sweaty as hell. Nobody misses a shot and it doesn't matter what level they are, 16 or 6000 they are going to beam you with literally any gun.

I think the nail in the coffin was when I saw a caustic crouching and strafing in front of me with a 301. He won the fight pretty quick, never missed a shot. But the way he was moving man, it was fast. I didn't think you could move that fast while crouching so I went to the firing range and I sure couldn't move that fast. I don't know what the hell is going on but I heard that the cheater thing was at an all time low. I want to believe that so maybe I'm just not very good at the game. I can't spend hours getting good at this game and it sucks when every fight you get into your up against a copy of some of the best players in the game, just one clipping you from impossible angles with insane movement, or so it seems anyways.

With the promise of cross progression, which obviously isn't coming, the ridiculous prices of the cosmetics,( but you can grind for them, no... no you can't, not if you have a life), and the ridiculous skill gap that is very apparent, I don't know man. I think I'll give this game one more season but I'm done after that. It's just not fun anymore. That about sums it up. I hope respawn and EA are listening. As a long time player and as somebody who wants to keep playing, the game just isn't fun anymore.

Is anybody else in the same boat as me?

But that's kinda the point: they're ASKING. You don't have to buy the skin to play the game, and if you do you won't play any better. Game play is still free. Always has been. Always will be. Buy cosmetics, if you must at all, because you want to support the developer. Not because you're looking for some kind of value proposition. There isn't one, no matter how cheap they get.

I think it's valid to not spend on cosmetics while still taking issue with predatory costs at the same time. Personally, I'm quite put off by this month's gimmick of offering nice new skins while bundle locking them to make them cost a bare minimum of 2500 coins. The skins really ought to be also sold stand-alone for 1800 as usual. Also, the glacial pace of change in this month's store is really annoying IMO. I didn't need or want entire pages of the store devoted to one single legend for a whole week at a time.

I coughed up for the Ash skin bundle, but it didn't feel good being forced to take it along with 10 Apex packs for $25. If the bundle locking had been less emphasized, I might have spent more this month.

A reason to "hate the game," though? That's putting things a little strongly. Nothing here is PTW like in several other games I could think of.

@ematt84 Yep. Sure, a lot of people improved naturally…but a lot of it is everyone has a crutch now: paddles, strike packs, Cronus, bumpers/trigger stops, etc. If you have to buy something that gives you an advantage that a standard controller can’t do…it’s pathetic. It would be interesting to see how good these top players are without their crutches. I also think there should be some way to detect people who use these pay to win crutches and they can stick them in lobbies with each other similar to Salt Mines and let people who DON’T use them have fair lobbies.

@ematt84I get what you mean. There are some good skins in the store that haven't been available for a while, but they're bundled with Apex packs, forcing you to spend a lot more money if you want those skins. It's a greedy tactic by respawn.
Also, just wanted to mention...it's a free game but it's understandable to purchase skins and other stuff on a game you enjoy playing and spend a lot of time on. Nothing wrong with that.

@Anonymous yep, I haven't given EA money in months. I still give Epic money, even tho I don't play FN much anymore. At least they take care of their game.

They ruined this game. It truly is not fun anymore. A lot of casual players have left this game, the queue times are getting longer and longer outside of prime time.
Not sure what Respawn was thinking but they absolutely ruined Apex Legends.
Oh ya, and $80 for a game skin? Respawn is so out of touch with reality these days I again have to wonder who the hell is calling the shots over there these days.

Yup me to, not a dime from me. I use to buy every skin, i use to buy boat loads of Apex packs just so i could get the heirlooms (I have most), i use to love this game. Not anymore, and never again until it goes back the way it was.

@reconzero I think you are missing the point.

High priced cosmetics are an issue. Should paying for a cosmetic mean 80 dollars? It's obvious that EA or any company are going to push these prices as much as they can to make as much money as possible. Don't forget why this game is out to begin with. It's not out for you to have some fun on your off time, this game is alive and well because it's makes money. So these inflated prices are just going to get worse and worse and the cheap comeback to it all is exactly what you are saying. "Well, you don't have to buy it. They are just asking you. It's not going to make you any better." You're right. I don't have to buy it, they are just asking and it won't make me any better. However, they game is also build around well known algorithms that heavily suggest people to buy cosmetics, and it works. Why do you think the game is free? For *'s and giggles? Do you think that EA, one of the most money hungry gaming institutions out there is just going to give away a game with no plan? This game brings in billions of dollars and there is a reason for it. Do you think everybody is just "choosing" to buying cosmetics? I mean yes they are, but it's heavily influenced. This is why the game is free in the first place. That's why any free game is free in the first place. All I'm saying is great, you have a game that's doing well and you have people that are willing to pay for cosmetics. If you were to cool it down on the prices, I'd buy some too. Furthermore, you should cool it down on the cosmetics because you're really starting to show the true colours when you ramp up cosmetics prices in leu of things players are actually asking for.

Pretty sure I didn't miss the point at all. The point is that in a free market a seller sticks a price on something and a buyer chooses whether or not they want that something and can afford it. Is a Ferrari worth the money that Ferrari charges for a car? Is a Harvard education worth the money Harvard charges for tuition? Thankfully none of us needs a Ferrari or an ivy league degree. And also thankfully none of us needs a legendary skin for Crypto.

And as you pointed out yourself, these companies know exactly what they're doing. They've historically priced these things lower and know from experience that lower prices do not lead to higher sales. So prices rise until demand levels off. That's called running a business responsibly. It's a matter of law that a publically held company maximize value for their shareholders. I'm an EA shareholder. Anyone with a 401k is probably an EA shareholder. So in the scheme of things we have a) EA employee's desire to do their job in a way that is consistent with pleasing their ownership, b) the owners' desire to fund their retirements from their investments, and lastly c) consumers' wrestling with a desire to buy something with no intrinsic or resale value. In that equation there are two things that matter and one that doesn't. To me that's the point.

I've spent about $60 so far in Apex over the last year or so and will spend another $60 if S15 is as good as I hope it will be. I have no issue with the business model. F2P is way better for online multi-player games than prepaying for the game and booster packs was back in the day.
I just wish they'd spend more of their time fixing bugs, adding QOL features, and doing something meaningful to combat smurfs and cheaters.

@HappyHourSumwur Hey gang, lets not forget that these skins also come with a package. You are not paying 60 for a single skin. You are being given a package deal. 60 packs for 6000 coins and a Seer skin. This in reality is giving you the actual skin it self for free in terms of packs and price shown. 6000 apex coins for 60 packs skin = free. So while some may find this gready I see it as a simple marketing plan any game would do if it had the exact system. Time has also shown that players are willing to buy these even with the prices of them. As mentioned these skins do not offer any benefit besides looking flashy.

This game for everyone is a hobby. We enjoy our hobbies and we invest in our hobbies. Love to fish? Well, your going to dump money into getting the cool gadgets to make your hobby a more pleasurable experience. The game operates the same way if you enjoy your hobby your going to invest in it. These deals in the store can be ignored just as you can ignore other fishing lures. (Using fishing as an example). What I do not see is people talking about wal-mart having over priced lures and other materials for fishing. Its a simple ok I do not want that over priced thing and you move on to go fishing with your desired materials.

I enjoy this game it is my top hobby that I highly enjoy. For that reason I've supported the hobby I love. I see skins in there and package deals I do not wish to own I do not think its time to be negative but more so ok I don't want that stuff. I have put well over 2 grand into this hobby and will continue to get more as I feel I want something. Just remember no one is forcing you to buy any thing.
