Re: Broken Moon

Ranked is dead since s17 no one play it thanks to the garbage mmr and the worthless rewards.

  • I haven't played ranked since season 10 (I think) & so I can only gauge some sort of idea on ranked based on the opinion of others & since pretty much everyone (from regular players, pros, youtubers etc) saying it's awful then I guess it's awful. As for the Broken Moon map like many others have said (from regular players, pros, youtubers,Uncle Joe Cobb & his dog etc) it's just an awful map that I just refuse to play on.But as a solo queue player I just find MM on the other 2 maps (Olympus & SP) awful as well for the record. For me BM map just epitomizes the number of poor choices & the general wrong direction (downhill spiral) the game finds itself in. I include in that also the rework of characters that have unfortunately made them worse ie Seer & Reveenant (he was always my main but I no longer play as him due to his rework), also the reworking of the Charge Rifle that has turned it into the worst weapon in the game that no-one picks up & is completely incompatible with mixtape modes.

To make Broken Moon a half decent map the devs should just cut their losses & just bulldoze over the entire map or have a huge meteor obliterate it & rebuild it over again but considering how various rebuilds/reworks have (or haven't) worked I wouldn't have much confidence or faith any rebuilds/reworks would be any better. When I first heard about Broken Moon becoming the next new map several seasons ago  I did have some kind of vision there might be parts of the map that may have some sort of zero gravity aspect much like in other games like Dead Space & Borderlands but unfortunately not.

@WTF_Huitzo Chicken or the egg? MMR is garbage because there is not enough players. SBMM change was made to reduce the queue times. This is a buff for the 3 stack sweats like the promo trials fighting in the top ranks. Could we ask somekind of MMR buff for the below average joes? Just to be clear like Gold and below levels before some diamond plat with 250h monthly play hours comes to agree how he is having to fight previous season preds & masters.

Alternative buff for lower skilled players would be to add PvE mode where you can go shoot around, try different guns without any worry of it destroying your stats. For example right now the game promotes only using meta guns. You might use some random guns off drop contest but you switch to meta as soon as possible because you dont want to give that upper hand to others.

Add the casual mode next to the more competitive mode. Risk is though that this will result in less and less players queueing for the PvP matches. For example personally I have played almost 1000 hours of Fornite but I havent played a single PvP BR match. Fun minigames with my kids or BR with bots is good enough for me.

4 other maps all have their own fan & hatebases but like pointed out on this thread there is only hatebase for Broken moon.

@Redmattgame Great idea! Gravity change for broken moon could be a fun and easy update to do. If not update then have it as a Broken Moon LTM.

"As for the Broken Moon map like many others have said (from regular players, pros, youtubers,Uncle Joe Cobb & his dog etc) it's just an awful map that I just refuse to play on."

So once again I see the hate and I'm not questioning that it's real. But "I hate the map," and "a bunch of YouTubers hate the map," is not an explanation of what is wrong with the map.

I appreciate the dislike, but I would love it if someone would go into some detail about where the problems are, and how this map is any different than any of the others.

@reconzero Broken Moons issue for me is that every game revolves around promenade. It isn't a fun place to fight and even if you win a fight you get 3rded instantly by people coming from every direction. While you could avoid the area that would mean not fighting at all. Plus the map is gigantic and the buildings are all copy and pasted.

You've given me some things to pay attention to the next time I play that map.

@hayhorMost of the maps have their hot drop spots and mid game choke points. Promenade is definitely the latter for Broken Moon just like Jurassic Park/CETO Station is on Storm Point and Terminal is for Olympus.

@HappyHourSumwurI know but this feels much worse. There are a lot of nice POIs on the map that get zero usage. If they disable the zip rails in pro play I think the map would play well. Even in regular play that might help, though the map size would still be an issue there.

It is funny, I've seen good feedback on every map but Broken Moon. I've yet to see casuals, ranked grinders or pros say they like it. I hate SP too but have seen plenty of people that like it.

One thing thats different about terminal is people can't come from each end riding high speed rails. I don't see nearly the congestion problem with jt.

@hayhor Good point, many of the edge POI's are really great but get very little use. Reworking Promenade similar to how Fragment got reworked would not be a bad idea.

PS - I think we're getting a city map (Angel City) with wall running elements in it next season if all the rumors are to be believed.
  • @hayhor

I remember well the developer comments in the blog when this map was released. They had all sorts of ideas about how Promenade (we like to call it Pomegranate for no particular reason) would play, that didn't bear out at all in reality.  I think the interior zip rails there were intended to help you get away from other squads.

I do remember one match, though, where our random got knocked and left (shocker), my buddy went down, and I was left by myself as Octane against a very aggressive squad.  I was actually able to use his abilities to live through a vigorous hunt by the enemy squad, grab my buddy's banner, and leave in one piece - due to the way they set the POI up.  In particular, the route underneath was key to my survival, which matched up with one of its intended puposes!  I must have been at literally one white HP for quite a long time as I endlessly stimmed to pull this off.

@HappyHourSumwur I'm excited for a city map. Been asking for that for awhile. I think it could make the defenders more relevant.
