Regarding PS4 version shotgun underutilization, AR and SMG hip fire strength.

As for the shotgun vs smg, I see a lot of pred level players rocking shotguns and peak shooting like panda said. I also see people using smgs. Both are viable and quite balances. The scenario you gave where 3 preds have you surrounded you'd die to shotguns too.

In that situation, you'd die if they were only armed with P2020s. 3v1 is usually the worst odds (other than 4v1, or 5v1, etc) unless they come at you one at a time.
