@matzesingtThere are, but all of them implement regular crunch or enforce excessive crunch (like Epic and ActiBlizzard), and/or have done heinous things (such as ActiBlizz and Ubisoft's abuse cases, Valve's extremely lax attitude towards cheaters just to keep their skin economy going, Riot's games being toxic and one of the higher up staff members making racist comments).
Respawn is an exception among studios maintaining AAA shooters, if not, AAA games in general. An exception everyone should aspire to, except being BR and arenas only.
Also I'm not that concerned about crossplay. CS:GO beats Apex only on Steam because even though it officially has multiple platform support, it's effectively PC only. Apex could easily beat CS:GO if Origin, PSN, Xbox Live and Nintendo Online numbers were available and added up on top of the Steam numbers, and even if they never play against mnk PC players.
@Emery_XPWell if apex can pull 500k concurrent players on Xbox and ps is questionable and would only be speculation if yes or no.
it is undeniable that the competitive side and more invested players usually play on pc preferred even with mnk, respawn catering to controllerplayers pushes pcplayers away and that trend is noticeable
- 3 years ago@matzesingt that would be like 600k players (assuming an average of 100k concurrent on any given day, thus already putting it toe to toe and sometimes beating CS:GO).
Only Fortnite can beat a vast majority of shooters these days in player numbers and appeal, but it is rather steeped in controversy for a company of Epic's size if not the demand for it. - 3 years ago
@Emery_XPYou have no data on that, and just assume how big apex is on consoles.
Only thing we can check is the steamcharts that shows that csgo has 730k current players with 1.1mil peek last 30 days.
While apex has only 246k current player and a peek of only 369k last 30 days.
maybe apex can reach those numbers if we include consoles but maybe not we can’t say for certain.
The fact remains Pcplayers are in perspective not that interested in apex compared to exclusive titles without crossplay.also you assume that steam does nothing against cheaters and make it almost sound like there are more cheaters in csgo than in apex wich is extremely far from the truth lol… cheating is dirtcheap in apex and people don’t get banned (keep in mind strikepacks and Cronus and all those other controllermods are in fact cheating) Check the revenue and sales of those company and you have a rough idea how extremely wide spread those mods really are

@matzesingtSlightly off topic but I've also found out about this, sadly:
https://www.ign.com/articles/bungie-report-battle-soul-work-culture-harassment-crunch
It's great that Bungie are owning up to this, but it's even better Respawn has never had this issue at all. Granted, Bungie is a much older company than Respawn.
This is in reference to the fact that Destiny 2 used to have Apex Legends' numbers for concurrent players (around 100k, but usually slightly less, like 80k from what I've seen), and in my experience, Destiny 2's PvP experience (AKA Crucible) feels the closest to that of Apex across the shooters I've played, mainly from the high time to kill and high degree of movement for a 2010s shooter.
Moving back on to your topic, it's not that easy getting people hyped over shooters like CS:GO and Valorant. They have more players, but Valve and Riot have been subjects of controversies, and CS:GO no longer really looks that appealing to me (and because it's generally a military shooter with its art style).Val might be more appealing, but Riot and their games have been the embodiment of toxicity, which, due to their highly competitive nature (League of Legends and Valorant are inseparable from the esports scene), they will never really get rid of it. Apex Legends players can be toxic but this culture of toxicity has somehow never reached Respawn, even as Apex is beginning to be recognized in esports as a valid game to compete in, and even despite criticisms over how battle royale is one of the worst genres for an esport due to randomness.
Apex has still reached massive success despite being BR and arenas only, which I highly resent because I cannot share the happiness people have for this game.On cheating: Valve are responsible for everything CS:GO, even the anti-cheat engine. Respawn use Easy Anti-Cheat, itself developed by Epic Games.
