Season 22 ?

I am looking at what to play this winter,  I am about to be stuck indoors, as the weather starts to grow cold outside.   Last season, I got the weirdo who can jump through walls but I didn't play the season or buy a battlepass.  I am still in the process of downloading at present, but it appears we don't have anything new other than dual wielding pistols?  About time our future selves figured out they have a free left hand.  I plan to check out what maps are available and go brush up in the firing range.

Some of you might recall, I had a med student renting a room off me here over a year ago.  He went off to U of M to become a doctor and is doing well.  But I sure do miss him playing this on his PS with me.  August I got this girl in his old room ( yes she treats me like a creeper ) no fun there.  She keeps her room locked most of the time and doesn't even have a XB, PS, or PC. TBH I don't know if this will work out.  I understand the need for boundaries, it is not like I am jumping in the bathroom with her.  I remember telling her the reason this old man takes in college students for such cheap rent is for polite conversation, make sure I don't die alone in the house, and no one finds my body until I start stinking. Seriously, I have all my bills set to auto-pay, direct deposit on my checks, would mean I could die playing and it could go on for years. Maybe I can get the old Saturday crowd back to doing game night again. One of them died and kind of threw a wet blanket on that event.

See you in the game!

The new map is nice, though got mixed reviews from "the kids."

Dual wielding (or "akimbo" as Respawn calls it) is, imo, an old idea that may bring something new to Apex, but brings nothing new to me. It's over-powered in this game's version. But I guess that's what makes new things fun. I'm sure they'll tone it down after the season ends.

There is a new "training" feature called Bot Royale. It's a small portion of World's Edge, centered around Fragment and points to the north and east. And it's just you, two bot teammates, and seven other all-bot squads. The bots are pretty weak so the odds of ever getting beat are low, but to me that's the selling point.

Regular BR matchmaking gets worse each season. Some of that is on Respawn, but a lot of it is on the burgeoning secondary account market. Nobody plays their primary anymore. You'll see what I mean soon enough.

Sorry to hear the new tenant is not a gamer, or even sociable for that matter. Maybe once she gets to know you better?

U of M? For some reason I'm picturing Ann Arbor, though there are a lot of states that begin with the letter "M," and you could be anywhere from Montana to Maine or one of quite a few places in between. It never gets cold in Florida, my friend. The state motto is "You never have to shovel sunshine." You could probably buy a condo down here for what you'd spend on the battle pass. 😉

  • @reconzero yes, University of Michigan has a large hospital complex built into it. I have nothing against Florida, I just don't plan to leave my home here in Michigan and live in a condo where I can hear the neighbor through the wall and pretend I don't hear them. Snow isn't the issue, I recall a lot of blizzards here in my lifetime. Now we hardly get a white Christmas anymore. The snow never gets deep here anymore. It still gets cold outside. I just stay warm by the fire, it still drops below 15 F on some nights here in January or February. Also I use gas heat that doesn't require electric, I think it is the dumbest thing they did making gas furnaces depend on electric power. Come to think of it, when are you planning your next hurricane down there to send me a warm fall? lol

Yep had a go at the new map. Got to purple armor and a yellow weapon, then died at 12th place. This seems like it is loosely based on Storm Point but a cityscape at night with a lot of neon. It is different, but where are the random pedestrians to shoot at like in GTA?

The battlepass screen is more confounded in my opinion. I think the revamp does a good job at hiding the fact, the free players will get less than before. It took me a hot minute to figure it out, but the old menu was the better of the two.

Ah, southern Michigan. I know it well. Both my parents hailed from little towns near Saginaw. I'm sure you've had a Zehnder's chicken dinner in your lifetime, so you would have seen my mother's home town.

Yeah, my whole family just uprooted from New Hampshire to the sunshine state, and you're right to point out that while I get to give back some fairly harsh winters, I gain a lengthy and vaguely anxious hurricane season. Not to mention the local politics. Sheesh. Giveth with one hand, taketh away with the other.

Oh, if you got to purple and yellow then I'm assuming you experienced the bin reset, a new feature. I'm guessing most people love it. Me not so much. It's an attempt to replace luck with skill in the final fights, but since a large part of my skill set is luck-management, it doesn't really help me in the least. Quite the opposite. So not a fan. But you be the judge.

Yes, I've heard much consternation over the battle pass. I guess I'm sorry if people find something in it of value or that makes the regular grind more worthwhile. Until I can unlock an aimbot then battle pass is of no real use to me so all I can offer is sympathy.

Over all, another checkered season. But another is soon to follow. As they always do. And I keep thinking that maybe the next season will bring better matchmaking. What is it they say about doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result???
