Seriously— where are all these lobbies I am supposed to be stream-rolling

I keep reading threads about Masters and Preds absolutely rolling through lobbies filled with lower skilled players and how the matchmaking is non-existent.

Meanwhile I am STILL dropping into pubs with 70% plus Preds/Masters and losing 99% of my matches. I mean seriously, I’m not losing most of my matches because I’m below average— I’m losing most of my matches because I’m above average. Please take a moment to consider the implications of that.

And if I am consistently playing in these lobbies, other players at my skill level are too.

So what’s happening here? I’m not sure both things can simultaneously be true can they? Surely I can’t be exclusively dropping into these lobbies while other Master players are exclusively dropping into low tier lobbies.

I think SBMM is actually working as intended and protecting the VAST majority of the community from the top 2%. But there are hiccups; sometimes a premade Pred team will find their way into an “average” lobby. I just think it’s FAR LESS frequent than people make it seem.

  • @Axs5626Sxa5001  I'm beginning to think it's either;

    A) a regional/time issue.

     B) people are reverse boosting in pubs for easier games.....but that is extremely impractical due to how time intensive it would be as i'm sure you're aware.

    C) the matchmaking is indeed tilted.

I'm inclined to think it's the latter, at least on console anyway as I can't speak for pc lobbies. It still doesn't explain your predicament though.

  • @Axs5626Sxa5001 I think many have figured out how to manipulate it. I die over and over to super players that I am not even close to in skill. Yes I'm usually with a friend so the premades sbmm has an effect but it is a lot worse this season than previous seasons.

I hear you. But if my lobbies are still consistently comprised of that many Preds, and they only comprise a tiny fraction of the entire community, than the community is still being protected from the vast majority of them (because they can’t simultaneously be in my lobbies and these low tier lobbies).

The whole thing is just disenchanting.

@Axs5626Sxa5001 I agree it seems odd but all I can tell you is my experience. And my lobbies generally have some of them blitzing through it. End of round 1 there are 5 teams left many of the times, most dead to a few super premade teams. I know you've mentioned you have sweaty end game circles in pubs. It is so rare to see an end game circle in mine now.

@MandatoryIDtag A) I have experienced this a lot. I've noticed that when I play early afternoon I have more enjoyable matches than when I play late at night (10 PM+). I think maybe there just aren't enough players on late at night for SBMM to work like it should, and for some reason the devs think that getting a pop in 30 seconds is more important than waiting 2 minutes for a more enjoyable game.

    B) There are just soooo many smurfs, too. And now that smurfing can get you reported, I think many hide their badges. I've also run into a lot of 20,000 kills+ players in pubs (and my K/D is under .50) but I don't know if they're just coming back or how they ended up in my lobby.

    C) Another thing I think is that I'm fairly good at arenas but I suck at BR. So I have a few good games in arenas (4 or 5 kills if with good teammates) and then the game thinks I'm a god or something and puts me in these squads for BR that are like, "no, I'm out. You suck Shark!" "But guys, we haven't even dropped yet ... guys? guys?"

@B0n3SawMcSizzla And then the game thinks you're amazing and puts you in those matches for the rest of the week....

"Sweet! You have 5 wins!" Yeah, they were all following around McSmurfyNotASmurfSeriouslyNotaSmurfGuys

@LaughingSharko Yeah, the only problem with afternoons is teammates, they literally give me an aneurysm. But at night there are no breaks in lobbies with 3-stacking teams that roll the entire lobby, while I still get matched with teammates who do nothing. If I play late I've started to just jump on NY or Virginia, just to get somewhat balanced lobbies.

I don’t want to smurf because that would result in me being in a lobby specifically comprised of weak players.

Public Lobbies that are curated by skill are the problem. Locking people into a particular thing is what I dislike. I want public lobbies with VARIANCE.
