Steam charts are pretty telling

Apex player counts on Steam are down almost 50% from their all time high about a year ago.  The Finals is probably going to keep eating into those as well.

Anybody know where to get console or EA/Origin numbers?

  • @HappyHourSumwur The combined console playerbase is a little bit smaller than the pc playerbase, how many players origin has is pure guessing I assume.

But the steam trend will definetly also replicate on other platforms
  • Yes I agree with the statistics.  People are going to whine "But that is only the 2% that play on Steam!"  or "Steam is for those Linux neckbeards!"... etc.  However here is something the nay-sayers should be aware of; Television Networks have used the Nielsen rating system by Nielsen Media Research to know how shows perform.  They sampled a small percentage of various groups by placing a box on the TV to collect the data.  The idea of this system is taking a random handful to get a pretty good idea where the entire group stands.

I myself stopped back 2 seasons ago and skipped playing the last 2 seasons.  The main reason was I don't like to be tied to a PC game in the summer time. The other reasons were nothing really "new" was present, the battle pass didn't offer anything I desired, and my friend I played with on a regular basis went to University of Michigan. When I returned in the fall (Revenant upgrade season) there wasn't much different. I took that season off as well.  My point is, players come and go for a wide variety of reasons.  These online games always lose players over time.  The less the game changes the more mundane and repetitive it becomes.  Human mind wants to gravitate for the new.  Finally when something ends, many people (even the ones no longer playing) exclaim, "Did you hear game X shut down the servers? It is so unfair!  I spent a lot of money playing game X and now it is just gone!".

To be honest, this season lacks luster, but I noticed they made map changes to Storm Point.  I hope they eventual add more bells and whistles to Broken Moon. Olympus is always fun in my opinion.  I think they should rotate all the maps in their library (not just 3) and make the time 45 minutes each.  I normally last 15 minutes on the map placing in the final 5 teams. This would have me average 3 rounds on the same map.  However you could end up playing over a dozen times, if you like to hot drop.

As for the console stats for PS/XB my friend at U of M might know.  I will call him up tonight.

@matzesingtnot exactly, Steam Players moving away are mostly MnK players that are fed up of Aim Assist (at least everybody i talked to in my discords), also has a reason why all the major MnK Apex Streamers are now on The Finals, but Respawn still overthinking if it might be a good idea to tune it down after seasons filled of complaints by pros and casuals alike and they still sitting on their b*tts. Now its too late , those players wont come back, maybe even never trust anything Respawn will relase in the future. But hey those players werent the cashcow anyway, otherwise they would have done something 13 seasons ago and not hardening the problem by introducing Cross Progression (which was also kind of a money grab, since a lot of people seemed to have lost quite some stuff in the process).

The Player Numbers on the tracker sites can be seen as some indicator since they are not bound device specific but track everyone that has some trackers set in the banner card, those numbers went down 10-15% in comparison to last season.

  • Also it is the first time ever I believe that the game has negative growth 4 months in a row, that includes the launch of a brand new season.

Twitch viewership is down even more Apex used to be like #3 in viewership now it is like #16 and games like Minecraft and Once Human have more viewership.

All of this started when they listened to "Pros" to make the rank changes. Catering to pros one time too many for something too important for the game's player base.

@matzesingt Console heavily outweigh pc in population levels. Consoles are easier to obtain and a all in 1 system. To where a pc cost 3-5 times more than a console does for some builds. So a lot more consoles are around for any game really than pc.

My friend said this is a tracker using PSN data.

    https://ps-timetracker.com/statistic/last-30-days

It shows Apex at 10th place and that is down from 7th in November.  However the number of players increased from 579 to 639.  These stats are for ALL PS platforms in general but I assume the game is only available on the PS4?

  • @E9ine_AC wich indicator do you have outside of your imagination ? There is no prove at all for your claim that the console playerbase is so much bigger… if we check the rank distribution from last seasons we see that pc has more master players than all 3 consoles combined.

That includes even season 17 where everyone could reach master for free if you just play enough…

I really wish to know why you guys believe such a nonsense that the game was more popular on consoles…

@matzesingt im with you on that one. tracker.gg shows around 2 mio more pc players in ranked that xbox and ps combined. maybe console players dont participate in ranked or they moved to pc due to crossprogression ability lately, idk ... but there are clearly way more pc apex players if i go by those numbers
