yup yikes.
Here is a quote from a post in the feedback section:

So me and my team we're all set and hyped for the new season 17 ranked. We did all the 10 placement matches and we are not the best average of goldish/plat. But we finished 7 times on 2nd place, 1 time on 9th place and other 2 times we don't talk about (like 15ish place). Every game average damage each teammate between 700 - 2000.
We were quite proud of what we achieved in those 10 placement games. We don't know how the new system points works so we just go with it. I found it weird that even tho I have stayed alive longer than my teammates, I had more kills and assist that I still get 200 point less than my teammates. I play apex from day 1 on xbox tho, I later switched to pc and I'm around level 210 now on pc now.
We were quite shocked to find out my teammates were put in bronze ranked after the 10 matches. What really surprised me, I was put in Rookie 2. It feels unfair and almost rude. Sure I'll be fine and I'll grind my way back up. But it had me questioned, those placement matches weren't that bad at all.. What kinda super saiyan God powers do I have to achieve or show to put myself in the same place both my teammates are in? Bronze? And even bronze placement I think it's too low if you look at the placement matches.
I do not understand and I'm wondering if it's a bug or something?

Well that is from the hidden MMR you have your teammate could have a higher MMR and you a lower one therefore if you earned Bonuses against same MMR opponents they would get less and you would get more. This is skewed by the differences per individual player you are matched with and against and no one will ever know what they are getting until the match ends. The only assurance is the base placement LP.
Even after placement matches the lobby is based off of the hidden MMR.
I currently feel bad about the whole "Arena's placement" approach to Ranked right now.
I am def not that great at the game but am far from being a rookie.
I guess I will just have to grind that much more.

Hello! Having a similar experience, I had great games, I even won one! Then I got placed in rookie 3. I believe the mm is taking the hidden mm from pubs and applying it to ranked, I don’t think placement does anything 😂. It trying to give us space to climb, so worse players, like myself, will have a lower rank, and most likely stop when they hit gold. But, if you got plat or diamond, you’ll be in bronze or silver to give you a head start so you don’t quit playing becase it takes to long to get to your desired rank. It seems like a system put in place to promote you to a similar spot you would have been demoted to (or to rookie if you aren't aim god 🙂 )

I really think the placement matches system is messed up, broken.
There are players that were preds last season and played their placement matches doing absolutely nothing and just ratting to top 5 or better and getting lots of LP like between 2-4k without a single kill or dmg being done.
That's just disgusting while players that actually played their placement matches and won a game get around 500-1200 LP.
Where is the balance in that?
