The Grind is Real, The Reward is Questionable?
So I am a little salty as of late, go figure.
The new ranked system has really messed up the game. The Grind is Real and boy what a grind it is. For Pro players and steamers it does not make much difference to them as they get paid for playing and they play 8+ hrs a day. For them it is just that it takes a bit longer to get to where they will get to anyways. They have the time and for a lot of them the game is their job. Their only major problem is that the Grind has created a lower player base for them to play with at their rank and the solution has been to fill their lobbies with what is available which means that lower ranked players get fed to them.
I mean lets look at a bronze player trying to get back to Gold the entry costs alone kill them now coupled with much lower RP gains on average. If it takes a bronze player 100 games to get to Silver one that player has paid 1950 RP in entry costs on avg where before there was no RP entry cost. And on top of that it takes more RP to hit the Silver4 threshold. The increased Grind is killing the fun.
Silver players will pay 31.5 RP per game by the time they reach Gold 4, another 100 games and that makes for 3150 RP for entry costs that was 1200 before the new changes.
The pros and steamers (.2% of the player base) do not have much of a problem with this as they have all the time in the world so to speak to Grind for Rank . Those of us that have other types of jobs do not have that luxury of time which means because of the increased time it takes to rank up means we will not rank up as far, and 99% of the player base falls somewhere in this category. Time does not equal skill, skill should be rewarded but it should not be connected to a time factor.
When you take this all into account and have put in that extra time to get to Gold or Plat come split your reward is going to be a kick in the teeth and back to Bronze or Silver 2 you go. With the all-encompassing increased time it takes back to get to where you were before. It feels like the grind has increased the time by 25-50% to rank up each rank.
I foresee that if things are not changed in the ranked system around the time of the split or at latest at the start of the next season, ranked will lose a lot of it’s allure due to the Grind.
How many of you feel that the current Grind is worth the reward? How many of you will re-Grind ranked after the Split or season?
Its not that I do not like the changes to the ranked system. The direction and changes are/were needed it is just that the Devs took a way to harsh approach:
Removing demotion protection is a good thing.
Increasing the value of placement is a good thing.
Devaluing kills in the early game to disincentive hot drops is good but done overly harsh.
Increasing RP entry cost is good but again done a bit too harsh.
Team RP is a good thing.
Increasing the timer for kill assists is a good thing.
Increasing the RP threshold per rank was overboard as the team KP/RP does not really balance this out.
I have played 25% more this ranked season and play it as it should be played with a balance of kills and playing for position placement aiming for the win but seem to gain 30-40% slower.
Time does not equal skill and Ranked was already a grind before, making it more so is just bad.
Still having fun playing the game though and my top 10 and top 5 placements have gone up. It is just I do not have 8hrs a day to Grind more like 8 hrs a week.
GG’s all.
I do not know why the graphs look so different.
But what I can say is that the graph from Apex.tracker.gg is not providing a full picture and that then skews the numbers. They have provided numbers based off of Bronze 3 and up which does not incorporate a lot of players and skews things. If you added the Bronze 4 to the equation then the other numbers would skew downward. I wonder how they are tracking since with how it is not as easy this season to rank up I can not see Plat 3 to D3 making up 43.409% of the player base in those ranks.
Apex.Tracker.gg is not up to date as it is tracking me as a rookie player and that I am not in Ranked. So how much can one trust that?
The Tracker from Apexlegendsstatus seems to be a bit more in line as it is incorporating all ranks and seems to be, IMHO, a bit more accurate in fact the the lower percentage in players in each rank as the rank gets higher makes a lot more sense even if there is a spike at G4 and P4 which to me seems normal for hard-stucks or players that have stopped at that rank in order to protect it.
