The most significant handicap I see: Playing without a mic

The amount of people playing ranked with no mic is borderline astounding. Sometimes I will solo queue in Diamond lobbies and it’s very common to see people playing without a mic. This almost always results in a loss.

I absolutely expect this in pubs. But no mic in high level ranked? This is an absolute detriment to the people who want to communicate to win.

I’ve played Apex almost everyday since week 3. Without question, it is the worst solo queue experience of any online shooter I’ve ever played. And trust me, I’m old as hell (36); I can’t tell you how many FPS hours I have logged over the years.

  • I do not use a mic. Like many others. But I do not think that's even the issue. The thing is, many people just do not even bother to use the ping system. I can't tell you how many times I lost fights because I assumed my teammate was beside me (I was busy looking at an area for enemies incoming) only to realize he was like 150 meters away once I was downed. Like come on, what happened? You were next to me like 15 seconds prior!

They did not even bother to tell me "look, I go over there" beforehand, with the ping system. I certainly would have followed them.

I also have a big TV, so that doesn't help either. I can't keep my eyes everywhere on the screen at once.

@MandatoryIDtag I remember the first time I picked up a pair of Turtle Beaches, back in the Halo 3 days on 360. I was completely blown away at how much extra audio I could hear. I have literally NEVER played an FPS game without a headset, since that day. I can't do it. If I'm relaxing on Farm Sim or Jurassic World Evolution etc., I wont have it on, but any FPS or most multiplayer games in general, I just have to have the headset on.

As far as game chat though, I haven't been in game chat in years. Even if I'm playing solo, I start an Xbox party chat by myself. I communicate with randoms perfectly fine, using the ping system on here. Most people don't bother with anything but "enemy" and "head here" pings, but the other ones are very useful for non pre-made teams. Plus, all the loud open mics and whatnot. I don't have kids for a reason. They're loud and annoying XD (Personal opinion, obviously. I know the vast majority of people love kids)

  • @hayhor Ahhhhhhh!!! I want it really bad!! My car is down right now though, so I have to allocate my funds elsewhere. Hopefully I'll be able to get it within the next couple weeks. I'm glad he's loving it! The first one was absolutely amazing, imo. From what I've seen, they have really expanded on that, and made what looks like an another amazing game
  • @Axs5626Sxa5001 yeah? , using a mic with randoms is like asking for day ruining arguments with all kind of slurs and for what , for a video game.
so, no thanks some people have enough of this during the day in their lives and at work so we don't need some extra topping of that during a game am playing just to forget about what happened during my day at work XD
  • @maximas1986 Yes I hear you.

But Apex is hard. There aren’t constant respawns and one mistake can mean game over. Even if everyone in the lobby is lower skilled— as long as people are close in skill, something as basic as communication can and will be the thing that determines success.

I guess seeing people in pubs without mics isn’t a big deal— plenty of people play pubs to complete challenges or to experiment.

But why do people play Ranked? To win and progress their rank. You would think that people who want to win would seek to reduce their handicaps. But this isn’t what I see. I see the opposite when I solo queue. That’s mind blowing.

@Axs5626Sxa5001I agree with you, in ranked you should utilize everything you have to win the match.
it's a pure competitive mode, I play ranked every season, yes it's not in high lvl lobbies I only get to diamond so I know it's not that intense same as master and predator but honestly, I will not ruin someone's day by trash-talking which at the same time it will be useless if they make a mistake.
and I will not accept to be on the receiving end as well.
I can accept blame, arguments, and discussion that's fine.
but trash talk......that's an instant report from my side, and the problem is with all honesty the percentage of toxic players is very high so if I open the door for communication then it's a very high chance of having a bad encounter so why I should bother.

I usually mute my mic and mute my teammates so I will not rage at them as I am  high temper person, and no one will rage at me we and  have an amazing ping system that covers almost every move a player want to make so I use that insted

@Axs5626Sxa5001 Bruh, I'm not learning French, Hungarian, or Italian to accommodate my random teammates in Apex ranked. If this is so important then put me with people who speak the same languages as me. My spoken languages are already listed in my PSN profile, Respawn can just go look it up.
