What do you think of Ranked Arenas?

Personally, I managed to peak Diamond IV with the help of some friends, and it was a long and tiring journey, but I can't help but notice a bunch of issues.

  • There are Legends that are practically must picks (Lifeline, Gibraltar, Bloodhound, Seer) and Legends with almost no usage (Loba, Mirage, Wattson) in high tier Arenas play
  • Solo queuing in Platinum and above is awful because good teammates and synergy is everything, and the matchmaking is horrible
  • The whole "first to win by a two point margin wins" thing isn't fun, because most games end up with someone losing 3-0 and they have no chance to turn it around
  • The AP system is very odd, and sometimes I lose 60-80 AP per loss and only gain 12 for wins
  • Arenas in itself is just boring and dry compared to BR, I didn't have much fun

What are your guys thoughts on Ranked Arenas? What rank did you peak this season?

6/10 placement matches. LOL. They need to do more to entice me or the mode is just not for me unfortunately. I want more LTMs though using the arenas maps.

  • Yeah Arenas feels more like a training environment where you focus on gunplay rather than an actual playlist people will eagerly queue up for

  • I got to Diamond IV as well but the lack of reasonable AP gain, no punishment for people who AFK, and unbalanced matchmaking (I should not be able to be paired with Golds nor is it fair that I they have to fight me in Diamond) makes it a huge hassle not worth the grind. I may return based on the effect of the changes they are making.

  • @CompleatBeet I did my placement matches just for the heck of it, but did them solo queue. Got placed Gold IV, and played maybe 1-5 more matches total? I just stick to pubs these days, Arena or BR. Ranked just doesn't have enough (any) incentive for me to play.
  • @CompleatBeetGlad you are having some success.

Overall my experience has been pretty crap. I see no reason to play it outside of points for various objectives. Won't touch it otherwise.

I lose RP when I have team mates who disconnect/quit.

Always have team mates who just punch you pre-round (right from the beginning).  What is the average age in this mode?  5?

    Matchmaking is a total joke.

No reason to bother.  It's virtually always a terrible experience.

I wish it wasn't; it seemed like an interesting alternative at the start but just doesn't work for me.  Zero joy.

@CompleatBeet If you enjoy it then it's a good mode for you.  No argument from me.  Some people love it.  I think it's great they are trying to introduce additional ways to play.

  • @CompleatBeetAP gains are terrible maybe next season when we get more AP for wins might grind master but this season was horrible.. If anyone out there did grind to master at 12 AP a win hats off man

Master in Arena solo queue is doable if you are very, very good and have a good mental.  The streamer I like to watch managed to do it during the week when the BR servers weren't working.  She found ways to be able to 1v3 fairly consistently.
