uhh title says it all why do we need sbmm in pubs when theres ranked?

@a24zxc5411011abx From the Game Developers perspective and endless research from numerous other games. SBMM improves player retention with about 88-92% of the player population. It depends on the game and it depends on how difficult the game is as to how much it improves player retention.Before SBMM you would have the top 25% getting paired with the bottom 25% in pubs. The bottom 25% don't stand a chance against the top 25%. I had a period in which I was in the top 15% or so. While that was going on, I would occasionally have streaks in which I was not playing well or SBMM would not work and I'd end up in the lower skill lobbies some how. I would shred absolutely everything that came near me. 1vs3 is no issue for me in those lobbies. How do you think those players feel? It's not a fun or positive experience for them. If that happens every round, they will give up and find something playable. This is especially true, when they would down my squad mates and I'd coming running up and melt all 3 of them.Not many people are going to push through weeks or months of getting slaughtered, trying to figure out the game. SBMM gives them an opportunity to advance slowly and find lobbies that are competitive for their skill level. They'll have some success (fun) and as they do, push up into harder lobbies.

@a24zxc5411011abx Oh yeah pit the 20 k kills TTV Wraith against the average players? If you had common sense you would see what I am tryna say, eh? SBMM is necessary for pubs too. They should tweak the sbmm a bit, is all. Looks like someone is afraid to fight the players of their own skill level.

@Aegis_Kleais That’s how a good SBMM would work. In Apex Legends though, SBMM means being matched with top 300 Apex Predators from the leaderboard.I mean I finally convinced my friends to download this game because you can rarely ever get teammates that don’t flame and leave the second they get downed, anyway my friends are new to the game and barely know how to shoot, and every team we encountered was playing as if they were competing for a million dollar prizepool. They ended up uninstalling...

Because in Ranked there's not sbmm either. Or it is in the game but it's completely broken, sometimes i get lobbies full of Predators and sometimes only filled with "normal" players(even newbies). And this happens to everyone.

thats because there isnt enough predators queing to have only predator lobbies so it auto fills

A Gold player shouldn't play against Predators, or a Platinum shouldn't be put with Predators, but that's not the point of this topic. Basically you're saying sbmm bothers you because you want to play against noobs and be able to have easy games. If sbmm is working properly then you're competing with similar skilled players so you should be able to deal with them, sometimes you lose, others you win. If that's not the case, then you go up against high tier players more skilled than you, so sbmm is not working. I wonder in which one of these situations you are lol.🤨

are u seriously arguing that? pubs should be all qualities of player, not the sh*tters held in their own section, and sbmm should only be in comp. that should be common sense but for some reason i suspect it isnt for u

Why not?
Ranked has nothing to do with Pub. Ranked is about competitive play. SBMM is about ensuring that your team's general skill level is on par with others so that the group has an equal chance for success. Why would Pub players NOT want SBMM?
Or is the actual concern "Why can't we remove SBMM so I can be put into a Pub game where I can decimate tons of players who are of less skill than I because I don't want a challenge from people similarly-skilled to me and I couldn't give a crap about the enjoyment of a game from other people's POV; as long as I get lots of kills"?

@DarthValtrex Yeah. It's because these players make comments that are self-serving. They don't care about any one else's experience. They don't (know, let alone) care that if the change was made, and SBMM was removed, that those new players would just quit the game after being matched against people far above their skill level. No one enjoys being beaten beyond a reasonable chance to succeed; and it would be a shotgun in the foot of the game, leading to its quicker end.

But these players never see anything in life from a perspective other than their own.
