Good post, not trolling.
The first thing I want to say is that you are right in there being a fundamental flaw in the logic of only wanting to take final fight. That is not a path to improvement. The flaw in your logic, to follow on, is two-fold. One, you assume that everyone is here to improve. Yes, we all want to be better players, but there is a point of diminishing returns on improvement. Second, when you say early fights give you three times the experience in the same amount of time, you are focused on the three times experience and I'm focused on the amount of time. I'm more than willing to take the extra time to improve at my own pace and in less risky situations. I've put in enough matches to have hit my "reasonably attainable" ceiling. I'm good enough now to take more than one fight in a match and not always finish in 10th place. I just don't bother because, all things being equal, the more fights you get into then the lower your odds of winning. Sometimes "good enough" is good enough, and sometimes battle royale is all about minimizing your exposure. Depending on your match goals. If it please you to believe that such logic is the mark of weak or inferior player then I can't contradict you. I would probably call it laziness, if I had to pick my own label.
Your observations on the de-sync issue seems to fit a lot of the symptoms of the game. And also completely re-inforces my conviction that improvement is all well and good up to a certain point, and once you've reached that point, wherever it may be, then it's time to stop sweating and start doing whatever it is that makes the most sense to you as a player in order to advance your match goals. I'm a middling player because I've hit my skill ceiling? Because matchmaking is bad? Because lag and packet loss conspire to screw me in one match out of seven? I've stopped caring because most of these things are out of my control, and the ones that aren't would require more effort than anyone with a job and a life can be expected to expend. But that most definitely does NOT mean that I forfeit my right to complain about bad matchmaking. I mean, offer constructive criticism of matchmaking.
I appreciate that your path to success is probably a good one for most players, although to some extent your argument is undercut by your own admission that "the better you get the harder the game gets." I don't think harder matches should scare anyone away from trying to get better, but for me personally the return on the investment would definitely have to be bigger. Much, much bigger.
If you stop posting who will I have to keep me honest???
And as for me saying that more fights during matches = better experience long term was just advice. I've been there, did what you did and it worked, up to a (very short) point, and I'm super glad I left that behind at the end of season 4.
That's a nice post you did there, honestly. But you know I can't agree with some of it right? I know it's all diminishing returns, and this right here is my issue with the mm. You don't necessarily feel your own improvement because things level up as you do, and perhaps even past you. The honest truth is that when a game is good people will play it win or lose. The very fact that people are posting their frustrations here and keep on playing is testament to that. No one was asking to stomp noobs all day long, that's boring, but also no one asked to be part of a sweat feast 24/7 in the casual mode just to try and keep a positive kd either. You know, there is a misconception across all communities about "the sweaty no life" and the "filthy casual". Neither is correct. All better players are saying is that they are good at something they enjoy and should not have a harder time because of it, they should in all fairness have better win rates/stats. We are all equally entitled to have access and have a good experience if we bother to put in the time, but the way major gaming companies are doing it today with their version of fair matches is not it. I've always said with enough players we do not need intervention from the developer and I stand by that. Just look at what's happening now - some want sbmm and have it already, yet it's not good enough. So you really want it then? You already have all you've asked for? Even with a pure intention it's almost impossible to balance teams correctly.
I keep bringing up Destiny, and for a reason. Only 20% of all their players play pvp. Everyone said it's because of the lack of sbmm. So they brought it back, and we saw a 20% spike in player numbers, but the retention dropped by 10% after a month. So what does that tell you? Most of those players that complained about it only played the mode once a week or so, of course you're gonna get stomped. And that lead to a back and forth with them removing mm and bringing it back. As of now they use loose mm in certain modes, which is an ok middle ground only if you are at the bottom of the skill bracket, better players have it real bad, and guess what, the past 2 days I couldn't even get a match...so what's the point even?

You're right about one thing (many others, I'm sure, but this one sticks in my head): matchmaking is a no-win no matter how they choose to do it. Random will make some people unhappy. Loose SBMM will make others unhappy. Strict SBMM will produce yet another crop of unhappy players. People will always find something to complain about, which is not to lessen their discontent by implying that it's unjustified. It's just an observation on human nature. Everyone is always convinced that how ever it is that something works, it works to their disadvantage.
I loved this, btw: "there is a misconception across all communities about "the sweaty no life" and the "filthy casual". Neither is correct." This is very true, and again is a reflection of the mindset that says you're being screwed over and probably to someone else's advantage. Then again, how could it be any different in an endeavor which is based in on line anonymity, and where you must, by definition, treat almost everyone else as the enemy?
I had no idea Destiny had such a huge percentage of players sticking to pve. Boy, does that make me wish even more that Respawn would go back to that. Or at least create a new extraction-style mode for this game. That wouldn't get rid of live enemies altogether, but I assume there would be far fewer than there are now. I would call that a plus.
Does Respawn read every single post? No, I'm sure they don't. But I would also be willing to bet that they're made aware as trends emerge in these forums and on reddit and wherever else it is that people complain and criticize. Remember though, there's a difference between "this is broken" and "I don't like the way this works." I'm not saying they address the former quickly or often enough, but the latter is another story entirely. Things often work the way they do for reasons only the developer can fully understand... reasons that often make good sense if you're in a position to see the whole picture. And again, not defending EA here - I despise them as much as anyone - but they give the appearance of being a data-driven enterprise, and data seldom lies. It doesn't always tell the whole story, but it never lies.
Lastly, I had a good chuckle over your description of Destiny matchmaking: "As of now they use loose mm in certain modes, which is an ok middle ground only if you are at the bottom of the skill bracket, better players have it real bad, and guess what, the past 2 days I couldn't even get a match." My take away was exactly what it always is: modern games are built with skill gaps that are too wide by about 300%. They're too hard for a less-than-fully-committed player to be good at, create unmatchable sub-populations, and create environments that practially beg their players to experiment with cheating in all its different forms. I know. Not the answer you wanted to hear! - 3 years ago
@reconzeroExactly, no matter what the form of intervention is someone would feel like they are at a deliberate disadvantage because of it. All the more reason to not have it and let things be or at least have modes with it and without it. At least you could work your way up if you wanted to, and it's not like we don't have ranked already for a "fair" experience.
Yeah, I think there will come a time, and I think it's pretty close, where extraction/pvpve would become the new thing. It's been predicted already and I think it's cool if the implementation is done right. I think the big thing here with all of it is just playing in a team with some variation. Which is why solo's will never work in this game.
I get that they monitor trends via reddit and elsewhere, but unless there is a massive spike in something I doubt they care. All the more reason for people to use the "me too" button and upvote, whether it influences them directly or not, given that it's a legit argument of course. Audio is another example where people just refuse to come together. I feel like people are too self absorbed and not looking at the bigger picture unless someone explains it in a video.
I dunno if it's like that tbh. Usually the closer the skill level the sweatier the match. Your basically just trading kills/shots with another player especially in arena type shooters, but in br loot matters. It's not the ideal experience tho either way. But I understand your take. Thing is, if we say many feel like the gap is too wide while only playing occasionally and as a result stop playing, do we really even need to acknowledge them? I mean pvp has always only been for a specific group, now it wants to include everyone outside of this group, hence the mess we have now. - Zulkiers3 years agoSeasoned Ace@Unitee01 "Yeah, I think there will come a time, and I think it's pretty close, where extraction/pvpve would become the new thing."
Titanfall 2
That game is still strong, why would they take players away from that and put them here? It's one of their own games.
You're talking about, or similar to, Attrition and Bounty Hunt from Titanfall 2. Maybe a few other Gamemodes as well. - 3 years ago@Unitee01 very true!
