Thanks for playing Devi's Advocate. Why are you guys even in this thread though if you have nothing useful to add? I feel bad enough for writing this.
I'm trying to provide useful insight as to help people wrap their heads around the state of this issue, because I truly don't believe that "other companies have fixed this and so should you" is a good argument to support 9-12 year old technology. Neither is "bought this to future proof my pc"...this kind of tech will ALWAYS keep evolving. Hard drives become larger. RAM becomes larger. GPUs have more video RAM. Operating systems are upgraded. Everything advances, and so do CPU instruction sets. The biggest step in this evolution is the one that is happening right now - one developer has stopped supporting it. SOMEBODY has to make that jump. Fact. Otherwise these CPUs would last indefinitely, and then technology would never advance. I understand that this is very difficult for some people to accept, as this is that first jump I'm referring to.
And just for reference, I was post #84 on page 9 of this thread. I provided my dxdiag to help them troubleshoot the issue. I've been here this whole time because I, too, have an AMD Phenom Processor and would love to play this game. But I built this PC 9 years ago. I knew it would eventually have to be upgraded, that's the nature of PCs. And if some cannot accept this now, then they will learn to as the next generation of AAA titles arrive and this processor is no longer supported by those developers either. I think it's best to learn to accept this now instead of setting yourself up for a year (or years, depending on how long you refuse to upgrade) of disappointment.
