beebai First off, I don't recommend unlinking your platform account(s) as that can cause progression issues, and secondly, when you searched for each other's usernames, was it by the platform username, (Steam/Xbox), or by the EA ID?
For example, your EA ID is beebai, (but if you play on Steam and go by another username, that might be the issue if they are searching for the Steam username).
Besides that, is your friend's Xbox privacy settings set up correctly? (I know Xbox has all sorts of settings that can cause an issue with adding friends).
Another thing you could try is to join a party with a 3rd player who's friends with both of you where you can add the 2nd friend by going to their player tag in the lobby.
