Apex Legends FPS Drops & Lag

Hi everyone! I’ve been trying to find a fix for my FPS drops and lagginess in Apex Legends and I can’t seem to find anything that helps anywhere!

Here is my best try to explain the problem:

I hop on Apex first thing after turning on my PC. The only other program running is discord. My game is very smooth at 120 FPS and no stutters or drops. After about 10 or 15 minutes, or after my first one or two games my game starts having frequent and seemingly random FPS drops from 120 down to 50, which may seem like not a big deal but it’s almost unplayable as it happens at random times (running around, gunfights etc.). Sometimes restarting the game helps, other times the problem persists. I can go at MAXIMUM two games without lagging / FPS drops.
Some more backstory: I used to play Apex back when it came out on origin (in the beta / before season 1 and then onward). I don’t recall having any FPS problems, and since then I have upgraded my GPU and RAM. I stopped playing the game for a while then, and have recently reinstalled the game (this time on steam). I started playing again now in season 8. I would’ve expected my game to run smoothly (or even better than before) as I had upgraded my GPU and RAM, but I am now experiencing the FPS drops.

Hope someone can help me, or point me in the right direction, as I’m really enjoying Apex again, but it’s hard to be a good teammate and get anywhere past like Plat rank with these FPS drops.

Thanks!!

Other Infos:

GPU: Nvidia GTX 1660 Super

RAM: 16 GB (2x8GB RAM)

CPU: i7 3770K (kinda old but never had a problem before)

Also: I run other games perfectly find and smoothly (lighter games like Valorant, Minecraft, also heavier ones like Modern Warfare, Warzone and Cold War).

Things I’ve tried (with no result):

- All Apex settings on low

- Optimizing windows, closing all unnecessary background processes

-Steam Apex launch options (forcenovsync and fps max)

- Intelligent Standby Listen Cleaner ISLC

- Updated graphics drivers

  • Hello again,

Thanks to your tip, i ended up carefully dusting off and vacuuming my PC, as the fans and case had gotten a good amount of dust inside them due to us running the heater again in our house, and my apex started running smoothly again so far! It seems to have been a cooling issue caused by the fans! Thanks again for the tips!

    Hey @ilycup,

What are your hardware temperatures looking like while Apex Legends is running? Your CPU or GPU isn't getting too hot?

  • I appreciate the response. I’ll take a look when I hop on this evening and reply with what i see!
