Apex Legends: Intermittent 1% Low FPS Drops
Hello,
I am experiencing intermittent 1% Low FPS drops in Apex Legends, and I would like to ask for help from the community and the developers.
My system:
- CPU: Intel Core i5-12500H
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Laptop GPU
- RAM: 16GB DDR5-4800, dual-channel
- Resolution: 1920×1080
- Monitor: 180Hz
- NVIDIA driver: 576.88
- HAGS: Enabled
- ReBAR: Enabled
- No frame generation
My average FPS is usually around 179 FPS, but the 1% Low occasionally drops to approximately 100 FPS for around 10 seconds. This usually happens once or twice during a test. The drop is not always very noticeable as visible stuttering, but it can be clearly seen in CapFrameX and the Steam FPS counter.
CapFrameX shows:
- CPU frequency usually remains around 4.2GHz
- CPU temperature: approximately 79–81°C
- GPU temperature: approximately 56–60°C
- GPU usage: approximately 57–64%
- No dropped frames were recorded
- Frame time appears to correlate much more strongly with CPU activity than GPU activity
I have already tried the following:
- +fps_max 177
- +fps_max 160
- Several NVIDIA driver versions
- Disabling overlays and background recording features
- Other common troubleshooting steps
The problem still occurs even when the FPS is capped at 160. I have also confirmed that I am not using Discord, NVIDIA ShadowPlay, browser recording, or other overlays.
This does not appear to be limited to my system. I found another user reporting a very similar issue:
Ryzen 7 9800X3D + Radeon RX 9070 XT
MSI B650M BOMBER WIFI was replaced with an MSI B850M EDGE TI MAX WIFI.
Several GPU driver versions were tested, and Windows was reinstalled after changing the motherboard.
Only EXPO and PBO were enabled in BIOS, and disabling PBO made no difference.
Other games, such as Genshin Impact and Zenless Zone Zero, run normally, but Apex Legends still has intermittent low-FPS drops.
Several people in that post’s comment section also reported similar behavior. This makes me wonder whether the issue may not be specific to one particular PC configuration.
I hope the developers can investigate this issue and provide a fix as soon as possible. I can provide my CapFrameX JSON logs, DxDiag report, video settings, and additional test results if needed.
Thank you.
